Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum, as you can tell. Lol. My name's Brett, here from Dublin California, always have loved bugs. I was introduced to a v8 bug about 3 years ago and since then have always wanted to build one of my own. I don't know that many people, none really, that know about bugs. I'm pretty young, almost 20, so I am pretty new with working on cars. I have never had that type of father that I helped work on cars. I have a 81 vw gti, that was my most recent project. But I'm tired of 4 bangers, I feel the need to upgrade!
So I hope that, by joining, this forum can help me through my future v8 bug projects!
Anyways, introduce yourselfs!

dont feel bad, im only 18 and i dont know anyone or have even heard of anyone taking on as many or as big of projects as i am, iv got a 69 chevy pick-up that i stripped down and am currently building from the ground up with all new parts, ive been working on it for 3 years now, and all with my own hard earned money. and like u i never had a father to help me, (rip, 10/20/00) so its an all new learning experience. so dont ever think that u cant do it, just work at it till its done.

Well here you are, new member! ;D My name's Eric, 23yrs old from MD, but right now I'm in WA, and will be staying here. I don't know what perked my interest in V8 Bugs but once I saw one I knew this was my next project! I've been into Oldsmobiles for years now, but I've always wanted a Beetle since I was a kid. I'm getting ready to sell my '83 Hurst/Olds and use the money for my first Beetle and spare change once I get started. Always had ideas of what I wanted to do with one, and now I found V8 Bugs. I just gotta figure out how I want to do it. (front engine or rear/mid). But since I'm just starting off, once I find a Bug (looking for a Super Beetle platform) then It'll be getting used to them, learning about them, and saving money once I get ready for the project. Right now my plans are to use a Super Beetle, buy the plans for the chassis on that site I learned about from here. (practice my welding skills before!) and put it on that. I will continue my love for Oldsmobiles by using either a 307, 350 or if I go all out a 455 BBO engine. But I'm pretty set on either a 307 or 350. I also plan on using an Olds 200-4R transmission coupled with Hurst Lightning Rod shifters for an automatic set up. This is all my rushed ideas, I still have a long ways to go in figuring out how and what I can actually do. Anyway, long rant short, just starting out, have a lot to learn. But here's my Olds inspired Beetle inspiration: My '83 Hurst/Olds: Decent pictures of the Lightning Rods I wanna still use.

Cool and welcome! Sounds like a good plan and I'm personally a fan of the super beetle over the standard. More so 73 and up with curved windsheild. Once you get started post your build in the members rides section for more feedback.
BTW, awesome ride!

Here's what I see...this is a cool site, yes...but not much conversation going on...I posted my mid mount Ford build and got not much response in a week...in order to see a site look more active, everyone needs to participate and pull their share...I have posted on other members rides showing interest, but still have no response from either the poster or another member...if you guys are into v8 bugs as you say you are, I would think that a shared interest would help create more conversations.
I will try one more time to post on members rides...now at this time I only have a motor and a lead on a bug...whether or not I have a running bug or in the design stage, it would be nice to at least show new members some interest in their project.

Hey FordPower,
I hear ya! There's really not a whole lot of conversation that does go on but people drop in from time to time and will make comments. I thought I had commented on you mid engine build about a couple of trannys you could use? The Memebers Ride section gets a lot more activity, but even still there's not a lot of people building V8 bugs. I have mine posted on numerous forums, V8 / vw sites, just to get more feed back.

Okay, I'm doing my part. I found this site through V8Superbeetle and 454Bug (Ray). I'll post an introduction and something on my build ASAP!
Glad to be here, Paul
