OK, I finally got rid of the junk piano last night and snapped a couple of the car from the side. The rims are mounted and the car is sitting very close to ride height. (The front rim is leaning out and is up against the fender, so it looks funny) Here's a close up of the deep rim. There is a level sticking in the hub hole.

That's gonna look killer! Have you thought about how you're gonna set up the rear suspention? What about the rear end itself? The only reason I bring it up is with those wide tires you're not gonna want a spool or a locker, you'll want to look at a posi chunk that will have clutches so when you turn a corner the outside tire doesn't "chirp" ( like mine does)

It will have a Ford 9" housing. The rear clip will come without the differential guts. I will need help with this. If any of you guys have specific ideas on what to use so I can drive this on the street, I would appreciate it. You will save me hours of research time.

My personal opinion is not to use a locker or spool for the street. My spiders are welded up and it makes for a great takeoff but turning sucks, also when you have tires as wide as yours it's gonna be worse. Go with an Auburn posi chunk and somewhere between a 3:25 and a 3:73 gear.I'm running a 3:25 gear cause I'm trying to make a street legal drag car and I want it to have some drivability.( obviously if you're drag racing this thing you want a taller gear, like a 4:56 or 4:89, or even a 5:14) It may be a little high $ but Summit sells the whole third member from multiple vendors, with a wide variety of gear ratios. You could also look at Jegs. ( I deal with Summit cause they're right up the road from me)

Also, if you know the width of your axle tube you can order your axles from someone like Strange or Currie, and they come with studs and the wheel pattern of your choice. That way you can get off the self discs from the local parts place. Do you know if you are running your pinion in the center or offset? In the center you axles will be different lengths but your driveshaft will be running the centerline of the car. ( like mine) If you run the pinion offset you axles will be equal in length but the driveshaft runs crooked with the CL of the car.

looks great!! Im gonna give you a few ideas on the thrid member and rear clip. The first thing that you need to look at is the ground clearance on the new frame. Most of them tell you what it is. Keep this in mind...when driving on street.
The 3rd member is a huge cost and it should be considered carefully. The gears will depend on your combination and what kind of power u are looking to put down. The nine inch case has a few options...this depends on your power expectations. There is stock, nodular case, a war case, and of course aluminum. IF you arent ready for all that planning yet..you could get one for mock up and use it till your ready. I will agree with mock and dont get a detroit locker or a spool they chirp around the corners like he stated. They do have a air locker out...I dont know if it has any more advantages vs the regualr posi though. Hope this helps..btw your tire size will play a part in what size gear you are going to use.

Since I am not going to be racing this car, except for the occasional and illegal "exhibition of power". I will probably end up with a low to mid range 3:? ratio. However I found a vendor (Gear Vendors) that sells overdrive tail pieces for TH400's (and others). They aren't cheap but how cool would that be? This will allow you to run a slightly higher ratio for when you do want to run it down a track but still have the option of cruising the car on the street in a custom fourth gear overdrive.
As far ground clearance goes, the entire rear clip will be custom to my measurements. As a matter of fact, the tires are absolutley the widest I can go and still have room for the frame rails and differential. I will be running the pinion in the center. Once I get the frame complete, I will then measure and order the third member and axles.
I will be running around 700 hp. It's hard to build a blower motor with much less than that. Besides, I want to be able to pull the front wheels off the ground.
I'll look into the Auburn posi chunk. Thanks for the help.

When you get ready for the driveshaft, look up these guys, www.quartermax.com/their stuff is a little pricey but they build pro stock drag cars and they told me I COULD'NT brake their driveshaft. I like that.

Here is a link for the calculations for you I just save you ALOT of math!! LOL www.wallaceracing.com/Calculators.htmGear vendors is the absolute best way..yes pricey..my friend has one in his drag car....worth the money...you will need to know the tranny you are usuing as they add on in length...this will interfere with the floorboards...in order to keep ground clearance. Third member MOSER is the best IMO...I would go aluminum...and the axles I would go at least a 33 spline or 35 (if you feel more need for speed!!) Auburn posi should do you fine...sounds like you got your ducks in a row...good brakes would be in order..aerospace or wilwood...this thing should weigh nothing..so it should be easy to pull wheelies.

Ray has one of those Gear Vendors overdrive for his th400. The driveshaft comes out to be really short, but have the overdrive will be great for what you want to do. www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsnPp_Jv2oUWith those tires and the suspension you plan on going with it wont be too hard. I agree about the posi. It'll save your tires some too not barking them around each turn. Can't wait to see more progress. It's looking great!
