You've been kinda quiet. I bet you've got the V8 in there already.

He's probably still reading all that stuff you threw at him.

LOL, yeah. I'm sure that didn't help, although I was trying to. Probably was overwhelming. Hopefully he hangs in there. There been lots of people that decided it's a good idea to build a V8 bug, but when they finally get a grasp on how much work it is, they back out. I know there's been plenty of times I've just wanted to throw in the towel.

I got some tools that my dad got me this past week which will help a lot. Its just the guy ive been workin for has cut me back to 3 days a week now... so really ive just been stuck waiting for somethin to happen. It sucks because ive got SOOOOO much time to work on it but nothing i can do without more funds! and dont think that you guys arent helpful! the people that have posted on my thread and started there own are a HUGE help to me and all the other projects! ESPECIALLY me and one of my biggest motivations is all your feedback So any information or comments good or bad is more than welcome!

When I first started my project I was Unemployed, raising two kids, and just barely scrapin by. I did what i could with what I had to work with. Why not start with a list of things you need, a detailed list. Figure out HOW youre gonna use the car, in reality. It's a great idea to have a general, all around driver/drag/ road course car, but it aint gonna happen. You will sacrifice one for the other. Each setup has its own suspention, trans setup, tires, etc, etc. Just in building mine I have had several changes that I will be making in the future that i didnt think about in the begining. So far this build has taken two years, the fisrt time I built it, it took three years, so I guess you could say that Ive been wrestling this thing for 5 years now, and it's still not done. And i still gotta tear it down for paint and re-assemble!

You'll get back on your feet. For the time being, I would completely strip the car down to the bare body. Pull window, regulators, trim, all the old wiring, etc. Did you get the chance to list the VW pan? That'll help with some funding. You might even want to see if someone would be willing to trade it for something you need. An engine block, trans, etc. I'm not the richest guy either so it's taken so wheelin' and dealin' to get what I need to complete the project.

And i still gotta tear it down for paint and re-assemble! I agree, a solid plan is a good place to start. You have the bug body and now would be a good time to decide on direction since you have some time to kill. The direction may, i should say, will change as you build this thing. A little research goes a long way. I would suggest doing some research on hotrodders.com, you don't have to join to search and what not, and you'll learn quite a bit from there. I know I did. Feel free to ask questions here as well and we'll do our best to help out.

Oh by the way, the cam in my extra engine is a Melling 22200 performance cam 222/222, .447/.447w/a 114 lobe. Not real wild but a nice little bump.

Not too bad. That would make for a nice street cam with a broad rpm range. I personally love the sound of cams with a tight lobe separation and plenty of overlap. Sounds like a galloping horse.

Thats a really good idea ill make a list tonight and post it up here to see if i missed anything.
i havent posted the pan yet but ill do that tonight as well.
i DID however stop in at the pic a part today and got some rough pricing...
200 for a complete 350 block and 150 for a s10 frame with suspension. I think that there both pretty reasonable prices.

Honestly, those are REALLY good prices. Try and get the latest model S10 frame you can. 7.5" rears where in 1983-1994 and the 7.652" rears where in 1988-2001. Chances are if it had a V6, then it has a 7.625" rear. These rears are stronger than the 7.5" cause they have a greater spline count.
Also, it'll be easier on you if you get a short bed single cab frame. The only one I could get my hands on at the time was a long bed extended cab. Short beds are easier to work with cause all you have to do is move the leaf spring shackle mounts forward about 9". Not as much cutting and welding to do.

A little info you'll need to know to get the S10 frame to work. I'm sure you'll be using leaf springs since they're cheap and don't require much skill to set them up. The stock S10 leaf springs wont work cause they're too long to fit under the bug body. You'll need some shorter springs. zbhover used trailer leaf springs on his build. The fairly cheap too. $25-$50 per spring. You'll need two, one for each side. www.hotrodders.com/forum/v8-convertible-beetle-leaf-springs-152171.html
