Yep, he was being a bit of an arse. Hopefully learnt his lesson over it though, ended up with a a 2 year ban and a 12 month prison sentance. Chances are he'd have done a bit better against one of the normal patrol cars. Unfortunately the one that videod him was an unmarked 3L BMW and he was running a standard 4 speed 1300 gearbox in the bug lol.

He ended up pulling over and getting out of the car while the police caught up. figured after that long there was no way he could ditch them.
They impounded it and I had to pick it up for him when I found out a couple of days after.
Then he put the car up for sale knowing what he was expecting and with the aid of that video it sold quite quickly lol ;D
He's out now. Only served 6 of the 12 months. Was trying to talk him into doing a V8 bug that he should finish by the time he gets his licence back lol.

Awesome! Coming along quite well indeed! Here in the states we call them fish plates, or is it "fish and chips"?

Finally lol. I'm online at the same time as someone else ;D
Not for long though, it's a quarter to 1 in the morning and i've got a sunburnt arm from the welding today so i'm off to get some sleep.
Must remember the long sleeves tomorrow lol.

LOL, I know what you mean about the flash burn. The jacket I wear when welding has a zip up collar in which I never zip up. My skin, just above my shirt collar and below my helmet, sometimes gets a little burnt. Looking very good!

Rear section of the frame partially welded up now Thought i'd give the rail a trial fit against the bug. Accidentally set fire to part of the garage today as well Opened the door to let some of the fumes out & noticed and orange glow from under the bench. D'oh ! Put it out & all's ok though. Flames were only about a foot high. Word of warning to all. Make sure you've got a fire extinguisher or a plan should you find the place on fire. That & give it at least half an hour after welding before you turn the lights off and head to bed.

Think i'm going to change the layout of the chassis a bit as well. I want to narrow the back end a bit to get some huge wheels & tyres under stock rear fenders. Was considering getting a Jegs rear frame and 4 link kit but it looks like they don't ship to the uk. Also, it seems a bit of a waste bringing the rails closer in to go over the back after they've been spread for the body. The plan is to remove this piece that kicks the rails outwards And then join & flitch the two peices to give me a straight rail front to back like on V8TOY's chassis. That should result in the frame being 25 5/8" wide (to the outer edges) and some stupidly big rear tyres ;D Anyway, it's 2:16am here so i've gotta stop thinking again lol.

Its all coming together nicely! I like the idea of narrowing the rear for BIG tires.

LOL! I'm glad to hear that fire didn't get out of control. I agree, wait a minimum of 25-30 mins before calling it a day / night.

Evening all. (well, mytime anyway lol) Had a bit of a break from the car as the wife fell down the stairs at work & messed up her ankle. She's getting better now so I get time in the garage again ;D Here's the progress... I finished off welding the rear suspension uprights & put them in place to mount the crossmembers. Tacked the furthermost rear crossmember into place Seamed up some of the welds on the 2nd of the 3 crossmembers Just a look at some of the welds Tada !!! It's a masterpiece ;D All the crossmembers tacked in. Seaming them up after the previous one has cooled down (Jeez it's boring ) And a trial fit against the car just to see what it looks like Hmmm, The wood is showing the line from the edge of the wheel arch. Think I might end up narrowing it some more Will see how it goes later on
