V8- that's exactly where I put it. above the rear axle. The safest place to put it. I put a metal shelf over it and down to the floor, about where the rear of the back seat would go. The only difficulty is that access to the tank is from the rear. I used the stock filler neck and extended it. You fill the gastank by lifting the rear lid- the filler is up at the right top. Make sure you use gas compatible hose to couple it up.

Thanks for the input! That was pretty much my plan, to use the stock filler neck and to run it into what used to be the engine bay. I'll use a fuel compatible hose / coupling as well. I was thinking it would even be cool to have the filler neck right under the quarter panel and have little door to access it. If you know what I mean. But it'll probably be best to have the filler neck as originally planed.

the way i did my floor boards, it leaves me plenty of room to put it over the rear end, and thats seems like the best place to put it.
