what everybody is missing is that I was thinking about it folding from bottom to top like \/..if ya know what I mean..actually hell raiser you have to remember most if not all of the strength in any V-dub is the tunnel in the frame..what I was thinking to avoid is to have the dash kissing the back seat..and i know that when ya put the body back on whatever frame ya build, the body will regain some strength, after it's bolted to whatever mounts are made..and these braces would be made to be taken out after the body is back on the frame..they would only be in long enough to take the body off of the original VW frame and then removed after the body is back on the new frame for the last time..

you definitely want to have the body totally reinforced before you pull it off the pan. all convertibles flex like crazy. if you dont reinforce the body like racerman said, youll have fitment issues.

There are several ways you can reinforce the body. Here are some examples. Just keep the doors on, make some similar bracing as the above examples, and you could even go the extra step and tack weld some angle iron on the outside of the doors below the B pillar.

My bug is a factory convertible its the red bug on the first page. Ya me and a few buddies learned the hard way when we took an older first generation blazer body off how easy they are to fold. As for my bug I plan on building a cage. I have a few friends that build competition rock crawlers so I would trust their welds and designs over mine. But I am also wondering if a cage would only stiffen up the frame or body a little. Is there possibly a way to attach the body to the cage to help make it more ridged?

oh haha my bad im confused lol. i would definatly put a roll cage in it, weather its attatched to the body or the frame, the frame would be the best mounting point but i guess u could tie into the heater channels and the dash?

Yeah, those chop pics were just for reference, LOL!
Roll cages / bars that are made specifically for bugs bolt into the heater channels of the body. I'm sure if you're having yours custom made you could have it welded to the body and / or the frame. You shouldn't have any problems with the body though cause the main support for the body is the pan which in this case will be replaced by the new V8 frame.
My $.02!

if you could i would weld the cage to the body and also have it bolt to the frame, so u get the best of both worlds.

My question is I have seen some pics on here of the brake pedal assembly some of you are using. I am now trying to find those pedal assemblies with the two master cylinders on them one for the front and one for the rear. Can any one tell me there correct name and where to find them?

Try looking up the brand "Wilwood"! I'm sure either of these sites would have it.
Look up part # 340-1285 for the pedal assembly and part # 950-260-6088 for the master cylinders. That pedal assembly requires two master cylinders.
Here are the sites that carry it.

I hope this helps!
