Very well done my man!! Sorry for not being around much, just lurk from time to time. You've done such a great job on this car, I love the dash and carpet, very much cleans the interier up. Two thumbs up Matt!!!

Thanks! I've been doing the same thing, keeping busy and lurking here and there. Not much to really post at the moment. I hope to start hitting up some car shows soon. Not much more to do. I need to install my brake switch and wire up the gauge lights. Little, but important things.

Hmmm...I'm trying to see how that would work in my mind. Sounds like a good idea. Can you elaborate a little more? 1. Cut the headliner out where it tucks neatly under the roof line and in the seam that runs all the way around the roof line. 2. Cut the insulating material the same 3. Using the Steel rods from the factory headliner place them in the middle of the 2 and glue them together. 4. For added support in case the glue fails like it always does after time, On each side of the rods run it through the sewing machine and it would actually look factory minus you would have an extra stitch on one side of the rod. I hope this helps for you, Was gonna do it on mine had the metal all finished and painted and it was ready for the headliner part just never got that far with it.

what i did below it is sand and paint it and fill the unwanted holes. And cut off the lips where it folded over for the factory headliner

Hey gang, Been a while since my last post. Just a quick update on the bug. I haven't done much with it lately. I've been busy with music, which I had put aside somewhat to do this project. I did extend the exhaust out the back. I'll post pics soon. There's a few things I'm not happy with, but I can't quite afford at this time to do anything about. The rear radiator setup just aint cutting it. The car runs hot. 210-220 and it's been a struggle keeping air out of the system. I'm going to try making it work and adding duct work, but if all else fails, I'm going to see about putting a radiator up front, but there's little to no room. I'm also going to put a cam with less duration in it to make it more street friendly and I'm going to lower the compression from 10.5 to 9.5. As of now, the cam I have is too much for my stall converter rear gear combo. I really just want to be able to cruise this thing instead of it being a drag car only. Last but not least, I was driving my car to a car show this past summer and my ignition caught fire. So that frustrated me. I garaged the car and I was on the fence about selling it. So I let it sit for a little while. Also, my circumstances have changed quite a bit. Got divorce, I had to sell my house, and I'm back in an apartment with a one car garage with no room to work on the car. I have plans to get another house soon, so that will help with space. Other than that, money is just tight right now. I'll eventually get back to working on the bug and get it where I want it. Just time and money...

As some of you may know, the radiator in my V8 bug is in the back. I put a lot of time and money making it look nice back there too. I've had a change of heart and I'm going to squeeze the radiator up front and see how I like it up there. I tried this at first, but didn't follow through because the lack of space and I had a void to fill where the engine compartment is stock. The rear radiator setup works okay. On a good day, just cruising, it would stay at 190-200º. If I get on it or if I'm sitting in traffic, the temps quickly climb to 220-230º. Well, I'm just not happy with that and the rear setup has always had issues with air in the system. So, I'm installing the radiator up front. Did some trimming out of the front clip to make her fit. :sawzall: Now, I need to make a core support. I'm thinking about making the core support bolt up where the fenders bolt up. I've also thought about a setup that bolts to the sway bar bushing mounts of the S10 chassis. Any other ideas? When in place, the radiator hangs about 1 - 1.5" below the front clip. I've never had problems with scrubbing the front clip, but I might considering taking out the 2" drop spindles and reinstalling the stock ones to make sure I don't scrub the radiator. The other issue I'll run into, is finding a fan or two that'll work with what little space I have. Hopefully I can fit a couple 8" fans. My current 16" fan I have wont fit. I haven't worked on this car in a while, but sure enough, I'm sure to draw some blood doing so... :wink: The hood does close, even though it looks like it wouldn't. As you can see, it's a tight fit. LOL. The radiator is right against the steering box. Sorry to those with weak stomaches. After I complete this, I'll have to figure out something to do with the void in the rear.

Hi Matt, Even though you nearly single handedly carried this forum for quite a while; I don't think even you can bring it back from the dead! I doubt that most members even check in anymore .Most web-surfers probably see the lack of current posts and move on. Your front mt radiator should help, especially with the super beetle grill. you may have to duct the air and seal it, as the bug front appears to be a low pressure area. I have both a front and rear radiator in my bug and still am looking for a few more degrees cooler. On a 95 degree day under the worst conditions; I see around 200. The two big problems for me seem to be air flow and not being able to get enough cfm with electric fans. Of course the problem may be that I just don't know what the Hell I'm doing! LOL On another note; I've put lots of fun miles on the car on the street and track and have tuned the small block to low 9's with what seems to be lots left. Hey guys, just checkin in. I do it from time to time. Nowadays its tough to keep re-engineering the same things cause what we tried the first six times didnt work. Its almost gotten old, rework that is. The room for bigger better fans with a shroud is my problem. My steering box is so close to the middle of the right side, i had to cut the shroud to fit it. But cooling are just part of my problems. Hey Matt, nice blood shot.... fresh meat, lol. A guy here in ga runnin a 10 sec s10 used the front spindles, rotors and full rack and pinion from 85_95 jaguar. I checked it out and it made for a real clean steering. Maybe somethin to look into .

If it's any help; I've found some cooling improvement by plumbing the back of the intake manifold water passages that go into the head, together and then to the thermostat housing. The after-market type housing that I have made it easy. My latest new MAJOR temp drop is by running lines from the water pump on each side, where it attaches to the block, to the center freeze plugs. My water pump has a provision for this and I just tapped out the freeze plugs and added fittings. Major temp drop with this modification! I had to go to a thinner radiator so the fan had enough power to move through the radiator! ( after trying different fans ) A smaller, thinner radiator actually worked better for me. The cfm rate for mechanical fans is about twice that of even the good electrics. On another note; Mock1racer; I just watched your last video and wonder how much heat you get through the metal floors, with no insulation? Mine would melt my shoes before covering it! Also; have you put your car on scales to try to find your handling problems at speed ? I've run 145 mph in the quarter mile, so far, and my Bug is as stable as a brick! Almost boring, except for carrying the front wheels through first gear.

LOL, I knew I would get some replies, and from those who actually have V8 bugs and have been there done that. I'm surprised hosting is still payed for on this site. JK, Cameren. I wish the rear setup would've worked, but I'm blue in the face trying to make it work. So on to the front rad setup. Hopefully the louvers are enough. If not, I'm getting out the sawzall and opening up the hood. I wish there was room for a mechanical fan. I barely have room for a 7" and 9" fan. I'm going to make a shroud for them. Hopefully it works. Here's a product I'll be adding if worse comes to worse. Boiling point is in the 300º+. www.evanscooling.com
