There are some pre-manufactured cages, that bolt in, that will allow you to keep the back seat. I doubt they're NHRA approved, but would provide more protection for you and your family. They fit real close to the roof and don't have a main hoop cross bar.
That's different, a H2 engine. Pretty cool. You could probably get away with a drag radiator that about 17"W x 18"H x 3"D. If that doesn't work you could always use the former engine bay to put the radiator. That's what I did.

Wow heck of a deal on the motor 6.0s are sweet. They put out great power. Are you going to run an automatic tranny? I see what you are saying on the radiator. If you are going to leave the engine where it is, it might prove to be a bear. Alot of procharger and turbo guys have custom radiators built. Here is a link for you to check out. If you could get one that goes straight and then contours in with the hood. Or one that might be shaped like a V somewhat. www.streetrodstuff.com/Products/157/

The LQ engines are basically an iron-block version of the LS. Still has the stock aluminum heads, but I lost the fuel injection in favor of a Performer RPM and a Barry Grant Speed Demon carb. I've got a Tremec T56 Magnum 6spd on layaway from Liberty. For some reason, my pics(which are a normal size on Facebook) are flippin HUGE when I post them here. In fact, too big, and cause an error when I try to load them. I'll get it sorted out. You'll probably dig the frame I made. Really strong, yet simple, and best of all, the body is a bolt-on. I'm doing the cage soon. The only bad part about the cage is that it's gonna be 100% welded, and I'm gonna have to lift the body to the clouds to set it over the cage and onto the frame. My last hotrod was a Model A coupe with a bigblock. Went straight...quickly, BUT wasn't fast(freeway or sustainable top-end) and I couldn't take a curve going faster than an idle. I set out to make this car capable of being competitive in all three areas.

Sounds like a nice all around build. I'm sure facebook is sizing down your pictures automatically. If you have them on facebook already, just right click on the picture, copy the picture link, and post them here using the picture box in the "Reply" section. Highlight the picture link and then click this button under the "Add Tags" section. Here's a picture link s1.images.proboards.com/img.gifSelect the above and then hit this button. It's that easy, or difficult. Depends on if you're a half full half empty person.

With Heidts crossmember all welded. With rack & pinion, A-arms, spindles, rotors and wheels. I made up some adjustable strut rods to go in place of the coilovers to keep cat at actual ride-height during the build. Sway bar not installed yet either.

Here's with the outer rails in place. I tapered the tubing going outward from 3" tall to 2", so it would meet up with the 2"x2" outer rails. The 3 tiny straps of steel in the center of the car are just tacked in at goofy angles to help keep things from shifting. I got a Husky brand digital inclinometer(level) from Home Depot rather than use a bubble level. Worth every penny. I now KNOW that the rails and crossmember and rear kick-ups are within .1 degrees. My last car I built, I could only say, "mmm, yep, looks about right"

Impressive. Is this frame your build from drawings or did you buy it? I may have missed that somewhere. When I started mine I used what I had, I wish my front was like this. I pretty much made mine to go straight.

Very nice. I like the gussets on the frame. This should be interesting. What do you have in mind for brake/clutch pedals? Where are you going to run the cage, so your kids can ride? Im not knocking your build Im curious of your ideas. Maybe it makes you think...or makes your head hurt. ;D

I'm building the frame myself, but there's been virtually no measuring involved. This is a low budget build, BUT I did spend a good chunk on the front suspension kit. I let the Heidts crossmember decide the width of the 2 main rails. And even then, I started off by mocking it up with the framerails straight. Looked at it with the body, and said, "too high, 3 inches should be good". Chop, overlap, clamp. 3 inches works, one more inch would be better! So I tried clamping it overlapped with a 1 inch spacer(4" overall step), and it LOOKED SWEET! ...but, I couldn't steer it maxed out pin to pin, so, 3 inches it is. Pretty much everything has been designed AS I do it. For my pedal situation. If I can't fit all 3 in a reasonable formation, then I'm only gonna mount a clutch and brake on the firewall, and make a throttle "button" in the floor. Kinda like where your foot would naturally go in a newer car while using cruise-control. I've saved money by doing everything myself, so I splurged on a front suspension. Other than that, I haven't put any big coin into the project. And if y'all knew how cheap I got a zero-mile 6.0 for, you'd just plain hate me. lol

Glad to see the pics are working. Man, that's an impressive frame! Seeing builds like yours makes me want to do another bug using a tube frame. What about a hand throttle? Maybe on the steering wheel like a paddle shifter?

Pedals/throttle aren't written in stone yet. Making a tube frame is pretty fun, I gotta say.
