BAD NEWS:For the past couple months people have passed me up and seen me working on my project. 99% of them have been really cool about it and actually couldn't wait to see it progress. There's been one lady whom is a mother of 2 or 3 kids and apparently one is an "infant and sleeps early", which I understand. Any who, she came to me and askd me one night if I could stop working on my vehicle. It was just before 9. I was polite and told her no problem. About a month later I was working on my car and it was 8 o' clock and she screamed from across the complex "Hay, it's 8 o' clock. I just ignored her, stopped working on my car and closed the garage. I rarely work on my car past 9 unless it's a weekend. Well, today she drove by stopped right in front of my garage and took a picture of me working on my bug. All I could do is pose. LOL! Needless to say chances are I'll have a complaint filed on me being I'm fabricating a car in an apt garage, that I'm renting. Now, I don't know what rules there are if any against doing something like this, but I'm thinking this isn't good. I'd hate to have to sell my project that I've put blood, sweat, and time into and I'm sure I wouldn't get anything near what I've paid for all the car parts except the things I've recently purchased. Not looking good. f**kin' pregnant dog (the forum converted the real words, LOL, too funny)! I've considered possibly renting a garage / storage space from somewhere's but the way these gas prices are and my limited time, that wont work for me. I'll keep you guys posted on what happens but it's looking like I'll probably have to part with ol' Blue so I can keep a roof over me and my fiancés head.

well.
how do i tell you this.
its ALL about how you carry on with people. dont just walk past the lady, ask her hows she doing, how are the kids, ask if you make to much racket, see if she needs help carrying the groceries when you see her. show that you got some kind of interest in not being a nuisence. make small talk. EVEN if its fake interest that you show, it goes a LONG way towards keeping people from turning in complaints against you.
youre not going to be working on your bug forever. do what you HAVE to do, to do what you WANT to do.
take your own pictures too. show that your tools and parts dont pose any threat to anyone, show that the place isnt a messy eyesore. cover your bases.
talk to your neighbors. keep as many happy as you can. show that fake interest i told you about, in all the rest that you happen to come in contact with. that way even when she does complain to your neighbors, your own neighbors will tell her "no hes an okay guy, ive talked with him".
and DONT talk bad about her to your neighbors. it doesnt help things.

I don't even know the lady much less know where she lives or do I even pass her on a daily basis. Even the first time she ask when "if I was going to be done soon", I politely told her "Yes ma'am, I'm done as of right this moment."
I'm polite to everyone and if I had a chance to talk to the lady she would know I mean no harm and nothing is taking place that's putting anyone in harms way. I don't know what her deal is. But, I'm not going to talk to someone across the apartment complex yelling, "Hey, it's 8 o' clock." She could come up to me and talk to me instead of yelling. I would drop what I'm doing immediate and I have, but she's just being an ass.

Sorry to hear it dude. My mate's just moved into his new house with a huge workshop on the side so i'm gonna be spending as much time round there as possible ;D As for this bit ... BAD NEWS:I've considered possibly renting a garage / storage space from somewhere's but the way these gas prices are ... it made me chuckle a bit. Nothing nasty though lol. Petrol over here is now up to £1.24 ($2.45) That's per litre by the way not gallon Per gallon is approx £4.70 or $9.30 Diesel is worse at £5.37 or $10.63 p/g

Well I haven't broken any laws or violated any noise ordnances so hopefully they'll blow her off. I'm going to keep working on the bug and worked on it some more this weekend. I've got the passenger side shackle welded in and I welded a fish plate as well. I had to trim it up a little so it would fit under the fender. I then started cutting the other end of the frame down so I could weld in the other shackle.
I'll post some pics soon.

Something burned out in my welder. It still makes the electrical hum but it won't weld. Hopefully it I can fix it or I'll be looking to by a new welder that'll work off 120v current that can weld up to 1/4" metal.

LOL! I know you guys gas is much more expensive than ours here in the US. Thing is about living in Texas is everything is a drive. I like the fact I can walk to my garage and work on my car at the drop of a dime.

I'd still much rather live over there A few years back I was driving about an hour or so each way. Not a problem 'cept that the journey was only a distance of 7 miles It's not too bad on this current job (im an IT contractor so swap jobs often and can be anywhere around the country) as the drive has upped to an hour and a half but the distance has gone up to 86 miles each way. Makes it less boring. Anyways, back to the dub stuff. You guys are progressing a hell of a lot faster than me. I'm still trying to get my build table set up.

My drive to work takes 1:15 - 1:30 and it's a distance of 13 miles. On a weekend it only takes 20 mins.
You'll get there! Can't wait to see the prostreet build up!

Finished welding up the fish plate and have the shackle hooked up for the first time. Seems the rear lifted 2 inches. That's OK cause I have some lowering blocks! I tried to get a shot of how close the shackle is to the fender. It's about an inch away. That's alright cause I have a couple inches to play with as far as moving the body back and I can modify the shackles so they're rounded off instead of square. That should give me the clearance I need. Once I figure out my welder problem I'll finish up the other shackle and the fender work. Then I'll move on to making a roll bar / cage and finish up the body work so I can start painting / rebuilding the chassis. It's getting there!

You had mentioned you wanted to run a front air dam on your car like the one in your Avatar on the Volksrods site. The company where you found that picture was from the UK. I did find an American company that had an air dam for sale. I didn't know if you had seen this site or if it is the correct shape for your liking... Check it out: www.creativecarcraft.com/whaletai.htm

Check it out: www.creativecarcraft.com/whaletai.htmThanks for the heads up! Its pretty close to what I'm looking for. I was thinking of using a drift style front bumper made for a 95 sentra. The top kinda has the same shape as a bug bumper but more important it'll allow for plenty of air flow. I'll post a couple I think will work, gotta dig em up.
