I still haven't had the chance to really do much to the bug due to lack of funds and time. I'll have some more free time in a month or so after I get music learning out the way (40 or songs). Been practicing welding and looking into getting a S10 frame instead building one out of tubing simply cause it'll be cheaper and faster. Found a guy who's got one and I have plans to get it this weekend if it doesn't rain. So far the forecast is fair. I've been probably doing more dreaming than anything! LOL! I've decide to go with a more modern look to my bug. Here's what I Photoshopped up. Here's a bug that I kinda got the idea from. I'm hoping to make the trim, bumpers, running boards, and possibly the dash out of carbon fiber to reduce weight. I've been looking into mold making and carbon fiber fabrication. Here's a link to a tread on how to make carbon fiber parts from the stock one. www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=145975

Once I get my hands on a S10 frame it'll move pretty quickly. I know exactly where I'm going with it. From researching I've found it's pretty simple to short the S10 frame. It's apparently two separate sections that fit into one another and is then welded together. Just grind the welds and cut (easier said then done, lol). Here's a image I put together to show what I'm talking about.

Oh, OK. I'll figure that out as I go along. So, FINALLY, got me a chassis. It ran me $150 Ext. cab, 2wd, 1994. I found this really cool retired guy, mechanic, he has a shop connected to his house with car lift and all kinds of tools. He offered to help me out, turn my rotors, help me rebuild the tranny, etc. He even loaned me his trailer to use and gave me a manual steering box to use. So I got a hella dell and found someone willing to help me out, and a new friend. Anywho, here's some pics. Me and my puppy making the hour trip. Chassis on the trailer. Chassis under the bug body. I've got to remove about 27.25" between the wheels. The front wheels aren't completely lined up with the front wheel wells but you get the idea. I'll get to removing the body mounts, cutting the frame off the front where the steering box and linkage bolts up, installing the shorter leafs, cutting the rear of the frame off and last but not least shortening the wheel base. Then I'll rebuild the chassis with new paint, bushings, and brake hoses. Work, work, work... 2" aluminum spacers to fit the vette wheels.

If anything they might stick out a couple inches. No more than they would with wheels made for a 2wd s10. The key is the 51+mm offset of the vette wheels. Their width is just about all back spacing.
Now I can get some progress moving. I'll have some more pics by this weekend.

I'll be putting on the vette wheels and spacers on before the end of the weekend and starting on frame mods, so I'll measure the difference between the stock ones and the vette wheels with the spacers. Before I sold the complete bug pan I measured the distance of my super from outer tire edge to edge and it measured 57.5".

I'll have some free time tonight to do somethings. One, putting on the vette wheels cause I have to return the stock wheels and the trailer to the guy I bought the frame from. So I'll get measurements on the stock and vette wheels from outside tire to outside tire.
