It would take about a gallon and a quart to paint the inside and outside, 2 coats, one color. On my bug, I used 3/4 of a gallon of orange (painted inside and half the outside, not to mention rerspraying the fenders), and half a gallon of black. It has taken about exactly a gallon and a quart to spray the outside of the car with 4 coats of clear.
Chris, I'm thinking 3/4 of gallon of silver and 3/4 of gallon of black should be enough and you'll have a little left over for touch ups or repairs later on.
It also depends on what paint brand you purchase. Summit paint mixes 4:1. A brand such as PPG mixes 2:1. So with PPG, you get more sprayable material.

Hey Everyone. Got some work done. I sprayed the final coat of clear Saturday morning. I came out pretty nice. There are a couple runs, but nothing that wont sand and buff out. Sunday my buddy came over to help me start putting this thing back together. We got the trim on, weather striping, got the door handles functional, and we managed to get a few windows in. We were having quite a hard time getting the front window in, so we called it a day. Almost there!!! More to come soon.

Thanks! I'm pretty happy with how the paint job came out. I haven't buffed yet. I'm going to let a buddy of mine handle that. He does it for a living, detailing. I'm going to let him put the final touches on it.

LOL, that makes sense 302.
Tom, you'll probably just have to buy a whole car. I don't know of any.

Did you ever find out about the one peice window kits? You still usin them? I cant remember, and I checked but got tired of searching for it.
I think there is some cutting that has to be done for the kit to work, I dont have anything yet but I would rather do the cutting before paint. I may end up getting a full door assembly and gut it of window parts, and put those parts in my current doors.

I have a one piece window kit and you do have to cut out the center metal. I actually did it after paint. I just masked the paint with paper and cut away the metal. It wasn't a big deal and no scratches to the paint.
I haven't installed them yet, which I'm glad cause I didn't know you have to remove the door check rods or else they'll break your windows.

I was just comparing pictures of when I first got the car and of it now. Boy was it a piece. It's come a long way.

Whew, I know, and still not finished.
BTW, a friend of mine that details cars for a living is coming by either Thursday or Friday to take a look at the car and arrange a day to work on the car. I'm going to pay him to buff the car. It would cost me the same amount to pay him as it would to purchase all the equipment and compounds. That and he's done this a million times so I know it'll be done right. So he's going to make some suggestions and we'll bring the shine out even more. Can't wait!

Boy, Im glad you didn't install the one piece kit without changing the door check rods. The kit comes with the new ones that you need to install. They are basically two pieces of cable that stays inside the jam instead of going into the door. Pretty easy to build yourself if you wanted to save money. I have a complete kit sitting here that I was going to use but went convertible instead. Guess Ill use it on the next build!!!
