I considered it very important to have no modifications to the exterior sheet metal when I did the v8 bug. With a small 4banger I think a scoop below the front would be sufficient.

Professor, when you have got your bug up to the 100+ mph range, what did you think of the rear stability? Does the rear feel firmly planted on the ground? I was thinking of maybe putting a functional wing on mine to help keep the rear of the bug firmly on the ground since there's not much weight in the back with a front conversion. Like this, small and simple, but then that takes away the stock factor more. Not that mine will look stock with vette wheels! ;D

im going to do the 4 cylinder in the front, im puttin my sr20det in the front of my bug small aluminum block 4 banger with turbo and an un godly amout of aftermarket parts for it i can make lil under 300 hp on it with stcok motor with just exhaust and fuel pump and injectors and manual boost controller, and the bug is still very light still under 2000 lbs
Turbo makes up for lack of 4 extra cylinders in some cases

His is rear mount though. Seems it would be easier that way. But it's still a cool idea! I think a 300 hp engine would get that bug boogying!

that looks pretty dang simple to do. LOL! I think it looks kinda complex when I really think about how he fabricated it. Funny thing is the guy that built this, his tag line / signature is: To quote John Buttera," ...making a car look complicated is easy, making it look simple is hard..." R.I.P.

to be honist with u, that quote makes alot of sence. cuz what may look complicated to others may be simple for u, and to make something look simple and plain, is rather hard.
