I fabricated the chassis using the front head of the vw substructure and made the rest of the frame out of 3" pipe, the entire frame , rollcage, sheetmetal, was handmade. I pieced it together a little here & there, with no plans, drawings or any pre-engineered scetches. The only thing I had to go on was an idea that it would work. Basically I used my knowledge of building dunebuggies and trippled the size of the frame. The design of the frame is almost the same as a standard chevy frame with a few modifications. I had two goals when I started the build, 1- make something fun, 2- keep it cheap. Total cost of the whole car, $3300. So to answer your question about the chassis, I'm not sure what type it is, other than a custom pipe design. I used the front end of a vw (ball joint), made heavy duty tie rods out of 1" sq tb, a s-10 driveshaft and rear axle, nissan radiator, honda electric fan, ford f-100 leaf springs, a 1978 chevy capprice trans, and a 1971 c-10 4bolt main 350. You could call it FRANKINBUG !! Pretty much everything else is homemade. I'm running it at the track tonight so i"ll let you know how it goes.
