I'm glad to see you guy's still check in from time to time. I was wondering what was going on with your Beetle. I have followed your build since you started and it is beyond inspiring all the work you have put into your car. Hopefully things get better for you. Keep up the great work.
And also, Is everyone posting their builds on a different forum now?

This project has survived a couple kids, a divorce, buying of a home, selling of a home, and 3 bands. LOL. It's been quite a year, but, back to it.

I bought some electric fans and aluminum sheet metal and made a shroud. I had to go with a 7" and a 9" fan. I did a little test fitting, and as you can see, it's tight. I can't place the fans any lower because the sway bar is in the way.

I plan to drill holes into the shroud in the dead areas to allow airflow through at highway speeds and I'll install flaps that will be sucked closed when the car is sitting. Like so. I'll probably use an inner tube to make the flaps.

What about rad hoses? If you got tight bends to make, use the stainless flex hose. I tried to peice together a bunch of different bends and ended up with an ugly hose clamp nightmare.

Luckily, I was able to mock up the hoses and everything reached. They're close to the alt belts and other parts, but it'll work. I finished the shroud last night. I bought a motorcycle inner tube to make the flaps. If you lean the shroud back, the flaps open. Seems like they'll work great. Now I just need to make sure I can get plenty of air through the radiator.

Thanks, CMD. I appreciate it. I did a lot of research, and seems guys that have had overheating problems with electric fans normally occurred at freeway speeds and not in traffic. Adding the vents / flaps cured most of their problem.

I figured out what to do with the bottle I finished off that was a birthday gift. Overflow tank... I have a proper overflow tank that just doesn't really seem to have space up front. The Crown bottle seemed like a nice touch. I'm not sure this will be permanent. Who knows...

I wish I had good news to report... This has been a rough year for me. A lot of changes in my personal life. From marital status, child support, change of residence multiple times, change in my daily driver.... and I had to sell the V8 I held onto it as long as I could, but I basically needed to get rid of my car payment. So I sold the bug and bought this gem, which is now my daily driver.
