Nice! I hear that a tab with rounded edges are stronger and I'm referring to what I see cut out before your tabs. Well, that what I've read and I'm not speaking from experience. Looks great though! I'm sure I'll have to get mine on it's side when it comes time to weld my frame sections together. I'm not too sure about my welding skills overhead, but I might do some practice runs welding overhead so that way I wont have to flip my frame. My space is limited.
What welding process are you using? Looks like stick (SMAW). If you are using an arc welder, what stick are you using?

Yeah, I went with an arc welder cause you can an inexpensive machine that could weld up to 3/16" metal, with multiple passes of coarse.
6010 penetrates good, but the beads looks like butt, lol.

ya i actualy need to buy a arc welder. i would rather a bad weld hold up rather than a nice weld break, plus no ones going to see them. also if you practice you can get some realy nice weld out of 6010, i know i can get some decent weld with it.

work has been a lil slow, because someone made a "pipe bomb" A.K.A tennisball launcher in welding and set it off in class. hopfully we get to a normal welding schedual soon

That was dumb of them! Although I must say I've built my share of potato guns! Even built a website I was so into it. www.mikeydesigns.com/potatogun/It very outdated, think I did it from 03-05, but you get the idea. LOL! Any who, what's the next plan after the mounts? Flooring?

What gauge metal will you go with? And how do you plan on doing the floor? I know your frame top is level with the heater channels. Will welding in any supports like angle iron then welding sheet metal on top?

i was talking it over with my teacher and he suggested 16g but im thinking more like 14g because its not going to be like factory where they have it bent for strength, its just going to be flat. as for where my seats mount, i think im going to run flat bar or angle iron if it wont hit my driveline and just bold all the through the seat and angle iron. have u notices were the only ones that get acctualy post anything on this sight anymore lol

That makes sense, better safe than sorry. Sounds like a good plan.
LOL, there never really has been a lot of traffic here but the amount of posts from other people sure have slowed down / stopped.

Yeah, it seems like it's just us three. I guess maybe everyone else's project is on the back burner. I saw some new pics of the Bug From Hell with the new engine in it. I think it was under Official Club Meeting? I've got my project posted on hotrodders dot com and it seems to have gotten a couple people interested and I plugged this site. Maybe it'll get more traffic here.
Any who, do you live in CA? I know they have some strict smog laws. That would suck. I know here in Texas after 25 years of age it's considered a classic and doesn't have to pass emissions. Just stuff like signals, lights, windshield wipers, etc.
Also, once a car falls into the classic category you can get it registered as a classic car and you only have to have the classic plates on your car. No inspection sticker, no registration sticker, just the plates. You might want to check into that in your area. That's the route I'll probably go. Seems like less of a hassle.

i can register it as a custom car but can only drive it so many miles a year. i know there is one thing, if you deal with multiple classic cars then you get some kind of deal but idk for sure, ive got a 69 chevy truck, 68 bug and a manx so hopfully
