All the way in the back. I'm kicking around some ideas to get air in to it. One idea is to motorize the decklid so it opens at a given temp. I want it to tilt out at the top and close when the ignition is turned off. I have the early pop out windows for the rear too and I want them to open and close as well. I think I can adapt the actuators from a dodge minivan. I'll have to get some pictures up that shows how I'm using a cut up front windshield frame to create the divider between me and the engine. I want the engine to be seen through the windows. If you've seen the '60 Rambler Wagon built by Diver's with the Ferrari engine in the back, that is the effect I want to achieve. Here's a link. It won the Riddler last year. www.diversstreetrods.com/ferrambo/build.php

Hey Paul and Matt,
Yeah, it's been a busy summer! We have a son getting married in October and that really slowed me down as well...
I am in Mobile tonight and will be working on the car all day tomorrow... I will have update pictures this weekend! We are actually ready to make some serious headway!
By the way, I got a little write up on the bug in Hot Rod magazine! I got my November issue in the mail today and got a surprise with a picture of my bug on page 19 in the "roddin' at random" section!
I guess any press is good press, right???
I sent a couple of pictures to them last month to let them know about the project and to tell them I really wanted my bug in their magazine when it was finished. They didn't respond to me so I didn't know if they liked the project or not...

Hey Congratulations on your son's upcoming wedding. I went through that in Mach for my oldest daughter. I got a pretty good son-in-law out of the deal and I hope you are as lucky with your new daughter-in-law! Of all the projects I have built or helped out building I am the most proud of the three kids I helped make !!! Great news about the Hot Rod write up! I'm going to pick that one up.

Congrats! Mine's coming up in Nov. ;D Great to hear. Post some pics. I'd love to see the progress. Congrats on the article. BTW, there's been a couple people on a couple different forums that have seen my bug and mentioned yours in the HotRod magazine. Here's their quotes. I thought everything sounded familiar. ;D Word is spreading about your awesome build.

Not much to show but I have been working on the car and resolving some of the design issues. While doing some surfing I found out that the Audi A4 trans is basically the same trans used in the '97-'04 Porsche Boxster. So doing some more research I found I can use all of the shifter components. So Shifting is solved short of scrounging some cash to go dig all the parts out of a salvage yard.
I also have the adapter drawn in AutoCAD thanks to the help from a member over on the H.A.M.B. board who sent me the small block Chevy CAD file. (If any one needs it I have it) It is a basic cad file but has all of the mounting holes and bell housing on it. I made a template of the trans and transferred it to my CAD drawing. I will use the flywheel, Pilot bearing and clutch parts from Kennedy to make the two work together. They have the adapter as well but couldn't tel me if it would work for the A4. Their kit is for the 5000. So I will make my own adapter and save $600. I'll post more details when I get a chance.

Sounds good! I think Hugo (on the germanlook.net forum) who's building a V8 bug has a Audi A4 tranny in his.

Yeah, Hugo is using the A4 trans. I found all of the shifting components for $300. I spent my lunchtime finishing the CAD drawing for my adapter. My Brother-in-law has the steel and said come by and use the shop to make the adapter.

I lost my mother at 3:30am Thanksgiving morning. She was hospitalized for two weeks with serious colon trouble and several other major complications. We were fighting a loosing battle and had to make some very difficult decisions. She was 81. She was a great person who loved everyone and will be missed tremendously.

Hey Paul,
Man, sorry to hear of your loss... I'll keep your mother in my prayers... Just know her pain is over with and she's in a much better place...
I remember when I lost my dad... a BIG hole in my life but okay with knowing that he lived an overall good life and is gone but never forgotten...
God Bless You.

I'm sorry to hear that Paul. I'll keep your mother, you and your family in my prayers during this time of morning. When my great-grandmother died, my cousin, a deacon, did her memorial service and opened me up to a new way of thinking when it comes to losing someone close. That is to celebrate their life. It helped me get through.
