[quote author=murphytj board=general thread=201 post=6322 time= Very good input. While we are at it, with a level on the carb mounting point of the intake manifold, what degree of engine tilt, front to rear, would you recommend? Also, motor mount placement. On the crossmember for front suspension?[/quote]
Tom, the intake should not be the point to which you place the level. You need to place the level on the block itself. I placed it on the back side of the block and he front side for a double check. You should be around 5 to 8 degrees, negative to your frame. Also, your rear axle should be the same but in the opposite direction, this way the face of the block is parallel to the face of your rear axle housing.

Oh, I forgot, the intake should have the correct degree of rake for the carb to sit parallel to the frame. This is how I did my car.

My bad Tom..that thing looks nice!! Im digging the older style accessories...and even the hidden oil filter. I was looking at Matt's picture with the HEI in it. So, you like the oil filter with the box attached, right? Thought I could just leave the box on it and then, that way, when I change the oil, filter is already in the box and I won't get my pinkies dirty. ha,ha. Yeah, being I am old (65 today), thought I would go with the old school look. Not going to be much chrome on the engine either. Bracketry for power steering and a/c will be black. I totally missed your B-day in there! Happy late B-day!

I'm going to do some sheet metal work while I'm waiting for the money to catch up with my plans.
I am going to cover over the air vent slots front and rear and cover over the old oil fill hole. (I'm keeping the stock trunk lid latch assembly.) I am also going to cut some metal out of the back end and box in the rear valance area. Speaking of rear valance, since I'm not going to run bumpers on the car, I need to change the metal to match the shape of the fenders where they wrap around the corners to the back of the car. (It looks stupid the way it is without a bumper installed.)
This probably doesn't make much sense without looking at pics. I'm stopping by the hobby store today to pick up some poster board to make my patterns. I'll take some pics to show the progress and post them next week sometime.

I know its your car but what about molding/grafting the bumper into the sheetmetal or...making pattern to do so. It would look different..of course I would still need pics...lol..this is interesting I was thinkin to do something with the bumpers..the front of mine looks naked without a bumper..It might be the difference between the fasty and your notch..carry on!

Does anyone know someone who has welded on their rear fenders? I want to take out the black plastic spacer from in between the fender and the body and permanently attach the fenders to the body. Who has done this succesfully that wouldn't mind a question or two?
