kennedy engineering sells a kit for like $500 that allows u to bolt a chevy to the bug trans, that is if u want a rear or mid engine, if you want a front end like most of us on here you will have to go with a chevy trans among other things lol

Most V8 bugs are essentially a bug body on a custom tube frame or another vehicle frame. You can use whatever tranny will bolt up to a chevy 350, but making it work in the car is a different story. You can buy a kit, like hellraiser mentioned, and bolt the 350 in the back, but then you'll have a big engine sticking out back. Chances are the stock bug tranny wont hold up to the 350. Look at some of the member rides. So are using a th400, some th350, it just depends on whether you want a front engine bug or rear engine.

Just gonna ad my two cents here real quick. It really depends on what V8 you go with, a chevy 350, go with the 350 turbo, a ford 302/351 go with the C4. If you go with a dodge 318 or 340, use a 400 , I think they were the best of the lineup. IF you go to a toyota or audi V8, or some other foreign engine, you prolly need the trans that came with the engine. Anything you get 96 or newer, you will need the matching trans from that engine, as the computers will be linked together.
Example: My neighbor got a 98 F-150 SVT truck with a blown trans, we put in another trans, it wouldnt run for crap. There was a computer board in the trans that needed to be installed in the new trans for the trucks comp to sync with the engine. After the swap, that freaking truck would fly!
Keep us posted on your findings, and good luck with any builds.
