Hello everyone, as some of you guys know I’m building a V8 powered 69 convertible bug on an S-10 chassis.
Being that the chassis has 212,000 miles on it I’m planning on basically rebuilding the front suspension, and may do a few upgrades along the way. I just had a few questions and hoped I could get a little help.
First of all the chassis was from a 92 2wd 2.8L v6 standard cab if that makes any difference. Also I have the 350 mounted about 6" further towards the rear than a normal V8 s10 conversion.
Also I’m not planning on racing the car at all, its just going to be a toy for messing around with and cruising. I’d like it to handle pretty good, but at the same time I’d like the ride to be fairly comfortable. (otherwise the wife might complain LOL) Cost is also a bit of an issue, I can’t go dropping tons of cash in the front suspension (mostly because I don’t have it LOL) but if I have to I’ll wait and save rather than throwing crap on it.
First off I figured I’d replace the springs being that they have over 200,000 miles on them. Being that I now have a 350 sitting up front instead of the 2.8L should I upgrade to stiffer springs, or will stock springs work just fine? I just don’t want the front end to be “mushy” because of the extra weight, etc. Also I’m planning on sticking with stock height springs, if I do drop it any I’ll go with some 2” drop spindles so I don’t screw up the geometry at all. I’m just not sure if I’ll need the drop though.
How about shocks, anybody have any they love or hate??? Are Stock OEM shocks ok, or would something stiffer be better?
The main reason for asking about the shocks and springs right now is because someone on the local craigslist has a set of brand new OEM S-10 springs and shocks that I could pick up cheap.
Now how about Upper control arms??? I’m thinking of at least putting tubular uppers on to save on room and they’d look nicer. Maybe lowers too if I could find some cheap(er)
What are you guys using for tubular control arms on the S-10s, anything that’s not too pricy??? Do any/most/some/none of the g-body control arms work or are there others that are interchangeable??? I can’t afford to spend $500 on a set of uppers, are there cheaper ones that would work for my application??? If not I may have to stick with stock.
I’ve seen these on ebay and they caught my eye (because I could afford them LOL)
Are they any good or just plain old crap???

I also I figured I’d upgrade the front sway bar, but that will be easy enough to do later on.
Thanks for all the help guys!!!!!!!!!!!
