would the transaxle out of a 1960 corvair b able to take the power from a 350 chevy?

It could take the power but a ford engine bolts right up to it (351W) anyway. with the chevy you need an adapter.

would the transaxle out of a 1960 corvair b able to take the power from a 350 chevy? the short answer. probly not. the corvair came from the factory with the pancake six, that in best form from the factory made 145 hp.... therabouts. now you put in its place a smallblock with some work in it, thats putting out somewhere conservatively at 270 hp? it could live for a while, if you kept your foot out of it. BUT if you do put your foot in it, when it catches traction and hooks, its just a matter of time before something lets go. there is the width issue too.
