True, a tube chassis would be awesome, but it's very expensive. A round tube chassis would be the way to go. The thing about the Silverado is it's width, and the frame is heavier. Not only would you have to shorten it, but you would also have to narrow it. Unless you don't mind your tires sticking out 5-6 inches on each side and your frame being wider than the body of your car. It would end up looking like this. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpbEKXN7rF8&feature=channelYou are right about expensive, tube shassis, that is. But for me, it was the most logical choice. many years ago, about 8 or 9 to be exact, I thought about doing a S-10 chassis for my Squareback but opted out due to I had so many other things going on at the time. Now that I am retired, I have nothing but T-I-M-E!

That makes alot of sense. i think ill call up the pic a part tomorrow and see how much they charge for a engine and a frame. ive found some engines on craigslist for a good price so hopefully something will be happening soon. any ideas about a tranny. my dad has a 3 speed but i really dont like only having 3 gears. if i run a automatic what would be a good one to run. really i want to make it a daily driver/ drag bug on fridays. but mainly i just would like to run around in it and be able to drive it the 4 hours home to my parents place so i was thinking at least a 5 speed if its a manual but any ideas for a automatic? ive heard there better for the drag strip but its not gonna make too much of a difference to me. BTW the bodys comin off tomorrow. i dont have to work now so ill have all day to tackle that. ill have pics up when im done. thanks guys I am running a 700R4 trannie in my project. Jump in tomorrow and get that body off. I think that there are 36 or 38 bolts to take out. Take pictures.

Sounds good. Personally, I would recommend a th350 (3 speed) or th400 (3 speed), if you're going the Chevy route. If you have to have an OD, then a I would recommend the 700r4. Bottom line, a th350 is very cheap cause they're very abundant and simple to rebuild. A th400 is a stronger version of the th350 and is found in heavy duty vehicles, motor homes, etc. A 700R4 is more expensive and not as strong as either the th350 or th400. It would take some $$$ to build up a 700R4 and depending on the year vehicle it come out it might need a computer to control it. If you go to the track, most of the guys in the Chevy crowd are running th350's, th400's, or a powerglide (2 speed). With the right gearing you really wont need an over drive. WIth 3.08 rear gears and 28" tires, the th350 would put you at 67.5 mph at 2,500 rpm. www.et-studios.com/motorsports/gears/gears.html I have a th350 in mine. Bought the rebuildable core for $100, the rebuild kit for $100, I also upgrade the sprag race (I believe it's called) which is another $35, and had a shop rebuild it for $250 with a 6 month warranty. Since you're going carbed, it makes more since to get a tranny that doesn't need a computer. I would take a look at what you're old man has and ask him what model tranny it is. Just might be a th350. If it is, snag it!!!

i believe it is but the reason he isnt using it is because the bell housing was cracked and someone had welded it when we took it out of the car. it isnt really gonna bother me if its cracked but i know its really hard to weld cast steel so i hope whoever did it knows what there doing.

The bell housing / case in aluminum. I would just find another tranny and you could use the other for parts during the rebuild. There might be something that needs to be replaced and you can pull it from the parts tranny. Another option is they make a bell houing you can bolt onto the tranny. A lot of guys use these as a fix or to beef up the bellhousing. Also, believe it or not, many of the Ford and Mopar guys will buy an adapter bell housing so they can use the Chevy tranny. Here's a write up on how it's done. www.banningcohen.com/buick/th400/index.htmHere's the bell housing. www.summitracing.com/parts/JPT-92452/Basically you cut off the old bell housing, pretty close down to the tranny pump, and bolt on the new housing using the pump bolts in which they provide the longer bolts needed.
