When I run out of money, I try to do things like wiring and such, so I'm still getting stuff done. But yeah, no money SUX!! Looking good though.

Thanks man, I have done a little more welding but not much with a lack of metal. Im working on getting the tops of my doors welded up right now. I also began thinking about a total flip in my motor selection. I have a friend with a nissan 240 with the s20det turbo motor in it and its pretty bad. Its about 205 hp stock with the stock turbo and its rear wheel drive. Made me start thinking...would be a good swap into a bug. You would have plenty of room left over too for radiator ect. Might have to find one.

Uh oh... looks like it wont be a V8 bug anymore. If you willing to go with something like that Nissan motor, look into a SRT-4 motor. Turbo charged 2.4L. 235 hp. American.

Ah, it was just a thought!! I will more than likely stay with what I have. I just thought the idea of a turbocharged 4 cyl. motor in a bug would be cool. It would be more dependable and better gas millage. But I like the sound of v8's too much.

Sounds like you just need to get you a chevy small block if you're worried about dependability. Besides turbos only last so long.

Ha, ha, I hear ya!!! The thing Im worried about is the carburated part. I wanted to go fuel injected but the car I bought wasn't. It will all work out though.

Running a carb can be very reliable. Just keep a couple filters inline and get it setup properly and you shouldn't have problems. Mine fires up right away and I haven't had any problems.
I've driven carbed cars as daily drivers for years without problems. They're not as good on gas though.

Well, that was my reasoning behind the turbo and 4 cyl. it would get good gas milage and be dependable. I love old cars that have the modern touch to them. That's why I went with the more modern s-10 frame and I , of course, wanted more power so my friend had the mustang and so the project started. If money was no object I would have done it differently but it always is. But you know, this isn't going to be a daily driver anyways, so that's what I keep telling myself. Carb it is!!!

i like a carb, but you have to really understand one to make it work for the rest of your engine build. EFI does the tuning for you.

Hey guys I know its been a while, but I have been collecting parts and changing my mind a 100 more times. I have to admit that I haven't been happy with the rear end of my bug since I started. I just couldn't get it the way I wanted. I also love the volksrods, and really wanted to build one of those. I believe the laws in my area won't allow open fenders, but I guess I will just have to see. So I have re-cut my fenders back off and I scored a 1951 chevy bed side from a friend so the build is off. Here's what I have so far. I will be smoothing in behind the cab to the bed sides, this will help the look of it, plus I will build a bed cover to cover the tank. I will perforate of louver or grill the back end to allow for airflow for the radiator. I'm not sure what to do with the running boards. Most people have the smooth sides with no running boards, but I spent so much time on them its hard to cut them off. What do you think? I still have to fill in behind the fenders which will be a fun job, but this is how it sits right now. What's your thougts?

It's looking good! I like the direction you're going with it. I would get a pre 67 hood and remove the front clip, if it were mine.

Man, I would love to, but if you will remember the frame on the s10 sticks out the front. I have the lip cut so that it just covers up the frame ends. I like it better if I could remove the lip all together but then I think it would be too ugly to see the frame. I think once I get the fenders covered it will look ok. There are many others out there that have it like that and it still looks good.

This is the exact look I am going for. Don't know about the flames yet though.
