im not to worried about welding the frame just gotta because not to get carried away even if its in a jig i have a welder buddy over 25 years in the game he has some really neat tools / clamps /braces etc etc to help with warpage and movement im heding to Australia here in under 2 weeks im gonna order it just before i return so it should be here as i get home just in time for the start of spring
So. Are they including the Mustang II crossmember? Who makes it for them? has a lot to do with the steering rack you use. You will have to cut some of the tie rods off. I would STILL reconsider having them weld it all up. Will save you alot of headaches down the road.
HERE IS THE EMAIL I RECEVIED FROM THE CHASSIS GUYS
Fiano, thanks for your interest in our chassis. It’s a well engineered foundation for literally, any type of vehicle. Let me get right to your questions.
The Stage I kit includes the frame pieces, all cut and ready to weld, a set of blue prints and the thinner Mustang II cross-member (wheel track is not as wide for a bug, as you’d expect). No motor or suspension mounts exist except the front shock towers are present but the front towers and cross-member are precision welded. The back is really an open box, we/you can put anything you want back there including an independent rear. If you move to the Stage II, and you want us to receive and weld the 4 link mounts in, we can obviously do that. It’s just a little custom work which we charge a modest rate for.
As for welding. I’m going to assume you are asking about pieces and placement. The blue prints that come with the kit should be clean. It’s 5 2ft. x 3ft. prints with dimensions and other details throughout. If you are asking if we provide instructions on how to weld, perhaps you should reconsider letter us handle that part and deliver you a chassis ready to build on.
A 73’ steel body should fit on the frame with minimal effort….
Please let us know if you have any further questions, and thanks again for your interest.
Best,
Matthew
