ok so iv been around vw's for 4yrs now. i love them so much. i daily drove my big for 3 yrs. crashed it and then made a fun baja. nothign big a 1600dp 72 standard bettle, put huge 265/275(cant remember) 75 17r in the back, and some 225 50 16z up front to give it a kool rake. its my ongoing project. well i bought a 914 while i was at schooling to learn how to work on black hawk helicopters for the army... i just got shipped to germany haha vw sentral but me and my bro (twins 19yrs old) have had a craving for a mid engine v8 for yrs... its hard no transaxle will really hold the power of a chevy 350 that is cheap. 914 will u just cant clutch dump and be easy on the throttle. well we been talking more and more about it and have finally decided to jump into r long lost dream of having a v8 bug. but its going to turn into somethign totaly different cuz of my v8 that i own
so i have a 1984 2wd f250 6.9l idi with a tone of upgrades. 410 dualy axle from a 97f250 so it should be pozzey. its a c6 auto (told its as if not stronger then a turbo400) but i have us gear venders on it so i have overdrive, and it came with an ats turbo that should never have been on there pumping 11lbs of boost. just installed new injectors and return lines with a semi upgraded water seporator can. this truck also came with a million mod to the harness and fuel system. it was towing a 44ft airstreamer and probably started giving problems so he sold it, dude left it on his ranch for a yr, it still can but a lil rough (6 ban injector, 1 shot on and 1 working and only 4 glowplugs worked on a arc test, doesnt mean they work in the truck) so i aqquired this baby for 1g i drove 2000 miles and the injectors and electrical finaly went out on me.
so heres were my v8 comes into play. i have a buddy who said he can get a new motor tranny and harness for my truck (buddy from teh army) while hes tracking down that deal i was already goign to turn my truck into a duramax 4x4 so i figured y not try and make a v8 with it.
this wont be an easy project, i will be funding the project paycheck by paycheck more tehn likly but its quite a bit for this i belive. plus with the limited amount of time my bro will work ill beable to pay for the amount he can do. the first step is getting a body cuz i am not donating my baja, cuz its my baby. i might own this project but it will ostly be his till i get outta the army.
we r tryign to get an older body, i dont like the 1302 style and i really aint wanting a 1303, even if its the first 2 yrs with the normal window. we really want an oval but there a bit more then i wana spend espeshally at this very moment and i kinda dont want to tear a oval apart for this particulor project, still considering it.
once i have the body all linded up the idea is to support the body so it wont tweek, cut the front fire wall and rear firewall to open it all up. take my sides and grill of the f250 slide the motor and tranny out and place it inside the gutted body, place the diff in the back and the front spindles in place to see wut were gettign r self into. then it will begin with messuring the bug body and start sketching how to build a new frame from scratch, kinda like how the kits u can buy form kinetic auto motive but more to my liking. we wanted to make a custom roll bar for many reasons, helps keep the frame from tweeking, helps make cusotm suspention and for saftey.
of course once i get the body and the truck in the darn were my bro will be doign the work, have resources for a lot of help from proformance shops around town and once we have this project togeather, i will be buying the tools needed to get this done. i already have a wielder but we dont want to wield he frame togeather we r going to get a pro or one of my friends to do it. i was going to get a plasma for cutting the body (or gettign my buddy to let my bro borrow it) a band saw for cutting the frame metal, tubing, and exhaust, a generator cuz the barn has no electric or getting the rv generator to work that is at the barn, and a tube bender. thats all once i have bough my body if i can find it nice and cheap. then as my bro is moving all the equipment the body and the f250 i will be saving the money up for all the metal.
we have the resourses to build a frame on inventer its a 3D programe it will tell us how much total metal is needed all the angles of each pipe, were to bend it, and with knowing how much metal in the sizes and thickness we can know much much money it will take to build this custom frame. and the cool thing is the programe is suppose to have a stress tester cuz i figure out how much power my motor should be putting down
the motor was 170hp and 338ft-lbs of tq stock (without the turbo) so that means if the turbo is set up good it should produce about 40% power increase making it 238hp and 473ft-lbs of tq and thats a good amount of tq to tweek somethign with... plus i we will be taking the stock mechanical fuel pump and turning it up to produce extra fuel, it will add extra proformance, plus wut i am already producing and my old truck was already moving really fast before i added the injectors, and turned it up so i have no doughts this bug will really move if i can figure out how to make it hook.
this is just an intro on wut my plans r, if anyone wants to give some ideas that woudl be great. yes i do understand my motor weighs about 900-1000lbs but i was already imprecessed how much my truck would hall off the lights and on the highway at it weighs around 7000lbs. right now i am still in the processing stage and will still be doign lots of planning uptill i get my body with the diesel in it and then the planning we be able to really get set in stone. this project should be really starting till around march, maybe just getting the body togeather and the motor and trans out and maybe maybe get the bug cut up and wielded with supports but that only cuz i am dealing with my financing and once march come all will be togeather and i can start handing money over for this project
