well i got a call from the tire place............. the size that i wanted have been basically discontinued by bf goodrich. thats usually how things go. dissappointing. guy said they were backordered, and that the company didnt have a date for when they would be available. not even a date like 4 weeks 6 weeks, nothing.
SO goodyear eagle gt are now on thier way. same whiteletter style, same size 295 50 15s. and ANOTHER week. these are coming out of the carolinas. oh well, just gives me more time to plan and scheme.
what are you guys opinion of using a motor plates? i was thinking of using them to take out all the flex of motormounts. i was thinking of POSSIBLY (not too likely) using that back plate as a firewall, and making a sort of bellypan underneath the transmission, so that the transmission would be INside the compartment with me. it would get rid of the need for a trans tunnel and might open up some more space in the floorboard for pedals.
it is just an idea so far.

I think its a good idea if you want easy access and you don't plan to lay down carpet. Although I would personally like the protection from the hot tranny.

well i know that automatics get pretty hot, because they operate on friction, but im not sure if a manual would get near that hot.
i think i have about settled on the idea of motor plates for the bug. i think that they ought to make positioning the engine in the frame quite a bit simpler. not to mention the removal of that bit of flex from the driveline.
still trying to decide on using it as a firewall though.

That sounds like a good idea to me. I'm guessing the motor plate in the rear will be larger than normal?

almost EXACTLY like that. ................. only manual. i guess that id missed that pic the first go round.
itll probly be a regular sized plate, but add extensions for the sides, which should make fitting it and trimming go smother. you know I'm gonna run a driveshaft hoop.

NOW i can move on to measuring what room i got left for a rearend, and ordering the axles that fit. oh and the motor plate. finally moving things along some.

yeah, the closer i get the more excited i get too, especially now that when i buy parts im able to actually do something with them, and they go to something else. not like when i was stockpiling engine parts waiting on machining money. bought my engine plates today. they are going to be coming in later this week. aluminum. now i just need to get things started on the work part. still need to measure the rearend, but i got the tires to do it with now. MAN im getting close to getting things going.
