I was very curious how the blower would work out on the 283 he put in last fall. He took me for a ride last week ( it was very loud since he put the big 3" flowmaster and pipes on and I was leery of getting a ticket since I don't live in the same town, so Matt drove). I had calculated the boost level at 12# with the pulley that produced 7# on the 350. He used the same 305 heads that I had opened up to 64 cc. (mistake to do- did almost nothing to reduce detonation on cheaper gas) so I knew the compression on the 283 would be real low - around 7.5, it runs great, you would NEVER know it's a mini-mouse motor. Now this car runs hi-way gears of 2.75 ratio so low gear shift- out at 5000rpm is 60 mph. You can feel a little bit less torque compared to the 350 at lower revs but it still has the same renlentless top-end pull the 350 had. Quite amazing to me. Boost we see is 10# so the motor is breathing good. Matt told me he is running 87 octane. I am sure the small bore helps to reduce detonation. He doesn't know where the timing is set to but it runs great and no ping. By the way, a long time ago, before the 144 BM blower, I had a turbo on the car but the HEAT the turbo gave off into the motor area was atrocious. The blower gets hot but NOTHING like a turbo. I was worried about cooking my wiring.

AWESOME! Any way to get some video? That would be great!!!
I'd like a turbo, or two! Super chargers are cool too! I could see how the turbo puts off too much heat since it's drivin' off of exhaust.
Any way to at least get some pics?

short stroke engines really pull hard after 4500. and blowers are great with low compression engines. sounds like an awesome combination of parts youve managed to get put together. sounds like a whole lotta stupid fun. ;D .

and a whole lotta money lol blowers arent cheap well they arent cheap no. BUT with more manufacturers putting kits out on the market, they are begining to be more affordable. these days 144s are going around $1900, and 671s are around 2500 up. the trick is to know that youre building a blower motor to begin with, and just build your shortblock and heads(focus on compression),and make your cam choice accordingly. with that already in mind, you only have to spend your money once. all in the planning.

True, gotta have that low compression and the right cam.
