Wat colors you goin with for the engine & bay? Here's the color scheme I'm going to paint my car. I plan to paint the inside areas with hemi orange. The engine bay, former engine bay, and doors / door jams. The engine is going to be black. The black engine with the orange sound really look nice. I plan to treat my engine bay similar to these cars. Minus all the chrome. I'm going with flat black trim etc. I'm going to knock off how this guy smoothened out the appearance of his engine compartment. I'm just going to use a singe stage paint everywhere, but plan to put down a couple of coats of clear on the outside to make it extra shinny. Here's the engine dress kit I have, minus the valve covers. I painted a stock set of centerbolt covers flat black.

Thanks. I'm hoping to have it in paint early next year. We'll see though. I'm going to give painting it a try myself. My old man just bought a 33 gallon compressor. Hopefully that'll be enough to paint my bug.

OK. Tomorrow my old man is coming over and we're going to work on the engine all day and get it finished. I've been holding out on getting the engine together because this is something I want to do with him while we still can. After all, he gave me the short block, which I traded, and a th350 tranny. I'll have pictures after this weekend.

That's too cool! I'd trade anything to get those opportunities with my dad.

Well, the engine is about 50% complete. We really took our time to make sure everything is right. The short block is assembled and sealed and I have the heads on and torqued. I forgot my phone today so I'll post some pictures tomorrow. It's looking good.

Wat colors you goin with for the engine & bay? Here's the color scheme I'm going to paint my car. Hey Matt, That paint scheme looks kinda familiar... ;D Other than the Orange it looks like the same as mine... I always liked the Harley colors... If your paint job comes out nice you can come over and give me some tips... I plan on trying to paint my Bug also.

I wouldn't want anyone thinking I copied you. I originally was going to paint the orange section a gun metal metallic but I figured it would make the bug too hot to drive during the summer. That and I wanted to have some color. I normally don't really car for orange but seeing those new Challengers makes me want an orange hotrod. I'm down for a paint party. I plan to paint mine in the garage. I definitely could use some help setting up a temporary paint both. I don't want to get orange / black paint all over the new house. ;D Ray, sounds good. I'd be happy to help.

Here we go. Here's some pictures of the build. Here's what the crank looked like when I got it back from getting it polished after I boogered up the crank (small scratch). When I got to the machine shop I thought, "Wow, what kind of crank is that with the gold journals?" Haha. I wish I would've take a few more pictures while we were building, but I was so into the build the last thing on my mind was taking pictures. The day flew by fast. This last picture the intake, valve covers, carb, and air cleaner are all just sitting there. I was anxious to see how it would look. I'm going to work on it some more throughout the week and I'll hopefully have it finished by the weekend. Putting an engine together takes much longer than I thought.
