Looks good, Are you gonna tear it all down when it's time for paint? Thanks! For the most part. I'm going to paint the fenders, deck lid, hood, maybe even the doors all as separate pieces. I plan to paint the car myself so I should have the hang of it by the time I get to the body. The radiator will come out, the shifter cover, and the wheels will come off. I'll place the car on jack stands. The engine will stay in but I'm going to take off the carb, distributor cap, wires, radiator hoses, and alternator & bracket. I'll just mask everything really good. The engine bay and radiator bay will be flat black. I just want I nice paint job. Not a show car finish cause this thing will be driven. A lot... ;D

I'm thinkin about strippin it down to nothin and painting frame/cage/body, and powder coating all the bits and pieces.

must be nice... over here in cali $3500 fine if they catch you painting a vehicle without a legal paint booth.. bad for the environment, though i dont see how since its paint, thinner, and air.... they will sell and allow you to use a rattle can with arrosal (cant spell lol) but cant use a clean alternative without having the fire department show up at your house...

Ha! My whole car is painted with the rattle can!!
There is a water based auto motive paint that is eco-friendly, that is being used in Ca. I saw it on one of those car restoration shows, Wrecks to riches or something like that. They took an old Chevelle and painted it green, the paint was H2O based. It looked real good when it was finished.
But I will send it to a proper paint facility when its time for the final paint job,( I dont have the right air compressor)

That's why I love Texas. I know a couple guys that are painters so I also might consider using a paint booth so I'm not pissing off the neighbors and getting over spray everywhere. That and I worry about fumes getting in the house. My wife is preggo and don't need and want the fumes inside.

I painted a demolition derby car, in my drive way, with thinned down bright blue enamel from Home Depot using an electric Wagner power sprayer. It worked great and looked great...for a derby car. But needless to say I did do it in a hurry so as not to arrose too much suspicion from the nosy neighbors!
Friends with paint booths are friends indeed.

Trying to wrap up fabrication so I can start body work and get paint down. Welded in the seat mounts. Here are the seats bolted in. Nothing super fancy, but they'll get the job done. ;D I do have covers for them which I'll put in after paint. I put down a second coat of Master Series on all the bare steel before welding up the rear fire wall. You can see the center section sitting there waiting to be welded in. Center section tacked in and making a pattern for the left and right sides. All I had to do was that one pattern which worked for both sides. I overlapped the left and right steel steel sections to make the rear fire wall stiffer. ;D Here's all the pieces in. I still have to finish welding it up but it's in there. Now I'm down to just adding some finishing touches. Things to do to move onto body work and paint! 1) Finish welding rear firewall. 2) Patches for the front of the heater channels 3) Line the hood scoop cut out with 1" steel to make the center of the hood more rigid. 4) Seal up rear fire wall and heater channel patch seams. 5) Battery mount. Still thinking about where to put it. I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! This past week I got insurance on the bug too. Very exciting getting close to finishing.

About your battery mounting, what about behind the passenger seat? This will give you some added wieght on that side of the car at the track. Think about a gyroscope... engine torque turns the car clockwise, which makes the rear axle want to turn counter-clockwise, whick actually takes weight off the passenger side rear wheel. By adding some weight to that side you counter that effect a little. This is called "weight jacking", you can also do this with "jack screws" which is done in NASCAR.

Is it just me or are we almost done? We sure are!!! ;D Man, it's hard to believe it's been 2 plus years. Lots of sweat, blood, tears...I know there's been two times I can think of that I just wanted to give up and posted a craigslist ad which helped me to vent and get back on track. Seems like it's been less than two year, but it sure is nice being "close" to done. Still lots to do though.

I'm not sure if there's room though. I can move the seat forward by grinding out the seat mount welds and moving it some, but moving the welded in harness mounts is a different story. I was thinking of mounting it in the very back on the passenger side. I thought about making a box and welding it in or making a box that subsets into the rear sheet metal. I also have thought about just putting it right there where the passengers feet would go. There really wont be too many people ridding in the car, but I don't want to make it completely uncomfortable so no one will want to ride in the car. Hmm...I'm going to try you idea and see if I can fit a battery back there. Maybe a smaller batter will work. I have a good used one from a truck, but it's too big.

this is what i'm talkin about, to use your own pic if u dont mind... Where the black box is, do you have room there? somewhere? i wouldnt worry about the elevation, yur frame will compensate for the weight. i have mine like this and the only problem is I have to take the rear tire off to change it.

Cool, yeah, that's what I was talking about. There's plenty of room under there. I forgot I had done that pic. Looks like I've stuck to my plan, well, upgraded to a 10 cage point though.
