It might not look as sexy as the pros can do it, but it'll hold.

Apparently I've been getting slag inclusion cause the 6013 rods I'm using. I was told by a pro to remove all the 6013 and reweld it with 7018 rods. Looks like I've made this twice the amount of work than necessary, oh well, looks like I'll be doing some more grinding and welding.

After reading, and asking person to person, it seems everyone has a different opinion as to which rod to use. Some swear by the 7018 while others swear by the 6011 & 6013. I'm just going to continue welding with the 6013 and finish the fish plating. This weekend I'm going to get some more supplies (grinding disks, 6013 rods, sawzal blades, etc.) and my goal is to finish welding the frame. If I have time I'll cut away the S10 body mounts too.

Got more blades, grinding disks, and 6013 Lincoln rods last night. I'm almost finished. I just have to cut out a few more plates and weld them on. Then I'll smoothen up the appearance with the grinder.

Should be as much of a challenge as the rest has been. This is the part where it starts to look like a car again! I'll probably just simplify the cutting by removing all the metal inside the wheel well an inch or so down from where the fenders bolt up and then channel the rear where the body sits on the frame. Or just completely remove it and reuse the metal I cut away. I'll have to figure that out as I go.

hey guys, my name is Keith from wisconsin and I find your project real interesting. In fact its really wanting me to do a project just like this. I just happen to have a s-10 frame sitting around. I am in the process of restoring a 1962 for the wife, and I am building a v-8 vega for myself but this project looks real cool. How far back do you think you will be sitting in the car?

Welcome aboard! They're cool projects and there's so many ways to approach it. I'd say go for it! I intend on having my seats in the stock location and if possible even have the rear seat as well. Foot room will be minimal but I plan to make mine an automatic so I really don't need a whole lot of room. Just enough to stick my foot out and mash the gas or break.

I was just outside looking at my s-10 frame after measuring up my 62 and surprised how the width is pretty close to the same. I think what a guy can do is run rectanguler tubing off the front stub area running to the back and then hand frame the rear section and run like a 4 link setup. I think a guy runs some basset style race rims with as little offset as possible, it would be pretty close.

True! You could do it just like this guy did with his build V8 bug build.

I dunno..for some reason I look at that rear end and wonder how it's going to ride or how does it ride and if it's done, how does it hook-up and such...
