Sounds good to me. Seems like it would be more enjoyable if it's street legal.

I'm workin on it, have to change a lot of things to make room for the throttle on the left side, have to move the brakes and the steering, move the seat and add another need to remove the fuel tank and get a 10 gallon, right now it's only a 5 gal. need to move the shifter, maybe get shorter cable, and i'm looking for a 1 pc fiberglass front end, but not the stock look, the drag race version , it seems to sit lower and give more aerodynamics. I've got some new pics of the front cut off and the underside of the car so i'll post those later on in the week( been real busy @ work) also pics of the engine all painted and ready to go in, the freekin trans is gonna cost me a cool $1300. 350 turbo with racin clutches and a transbrake, 3500 stall, but i'm still not sure how that's gonna work together.Got my 9", the car only had 60k miles on it,and it's got disc breaks so now I gotta find somebody to cut it respline it and put a Detroit locker in it. I'll keep you updated.

There's a guy a few apartments down from me that happen to catch me tearing down my motor and he put two and two together. He's seen me grinding, welding, cutting and now saw the V8. He stopped by and I filled him in. Turns out he's the guy in my complex whom has a blue 96? 4.6L (might be more cause he said he put quite a bit of money into the motor) stang, roll cage, roll bar, stripped, and it sounds like he has flows. Nice car. Cool guy. Can't wait to run him one day! Oh, yeah, turns out he's a painter. He gave me some tips and mentioned his place of employment will rent out a booth for $100, for the day.

I've had those wheels for a long time, I like the old school look, that's the way I built the car the way they did it back in the day. there's a sayin we use @ work,K.I.S.S Keep It Simple Stupid, it works for me.Also I found out the so-called 9" rear is acctually a 8.8" Igot another real9"out of a 72 ford truck but Ithink Ican swap the tubes and still use the disc brakes.Anybody got any ideas if this will work?I'm thinking the bearings won't workbut Ihave'nt looked that hard in to it.either way I got what Ineed.----- Hey Roadrunna, I'm gonna be comin to your side of the pond next month for work , ever hear of a company called Aircogen, they have a plant in Peterbourogh and one in Lincoln, I'll be @ the Lincoln plant, maybe we could get together and swap tech info. I have a freind that races a radical and another that races a westfield, their gonna take me to some road course track over there and try to scare me HAhA!! Load up your wifes mustang and show 'em something!! ttyl.

Okay , here are some more pics, some are before the teardown . But they will give a better idea of the way I built my chassis, s43.photobucket.com/albums/e370/mock1racer/bug%20pics/It looks rather crude compared to some of the designs i've seen you guys build, but i'm in the process of re-building pretty much the whole car, It's gonna be a long process but it will be a better looking end result.

Thanks for sharing the link. It didn't quite take me to the album. I had navigate backwards one.
I really dig it. It's a different approach, not too crude, I like the fact you used the stock front suspension, and I like the fact that you drive in the middle. I could see how you'd like to build something street legal. IMO, I would setup the rear with a ladder bar suspension to get the tail end looking a little more stock, but I see why it was done that way.

A lot of the car was rusted real bad in the back and when I started cutting it away I ended up with a baja lookin rig. I'm fixing all of that stuff now, moving the roll cage around in the back to make room for the new feul cell and battery box , chopping some of the exsisting steel off the frame , so far i've taken 87 Lbs. off the car . I'm also thinkin about using a 2" hole saw and cuttin holes down the bottom of the main frame every 4" to take off more weight.

Will it still be just as strong with the holes? How much do you think your car will weigh when all said and done?

If you take a peice of pipe , looking at it from the end, you see a circle, you remove 25% of that circle you have basically a peice of channel. as thick as that pipe is I won't lose any structural integrity and I will probably take off 20 lbs. Not much i know but I have'nt weighed my cut- outs so it's just a guess. I 'm hoping the car will weigh about 2000 lbs with mw in ti when i'm done--- We'll see !!

Man am I ever havin a hard time refabbin this car!! I'm about two seconds from 86'n the whole project and startin over!! AARRGG!!! everything i'm lookin to do is changin somethin else on the frame, if Icut the body off the exsisting frame I'll have to re-floor it when I build a new frame, my fire wall will have to be changed as well, i've got a brand new VW front end that I still want to use, but if I go with 2 x 4 sq tb i'm gonna have to re-fab the front to mount the VW front. The ladder bar setup I want to build is raising other questions too, I just bought new shock for the setup I've got now, if I go with the ladders i'll have to put limiting straps on the axle to keep it tight. Also I did some calulations on pipe deflection and I don't think drilling holes in the mainframe is gonna work. A peice of pipe that is 5'has a deflection of about 3mm. with 500lbs on it. Removing 25% of that pipe even though it's just holes will increase the deflection by 20% ( not good) Which basically means , when I rev up to 4000 rpm, hit the trans brake , 500 ft lbs of torque will twist the frame to the point of breaking(also not good) I need some help with the plans for building the frame using 2 x 4 sq tb. The plans from probug , are they for use with a mustang front end or can I modify it for my VW front end? THIS PROJECT STARTED OUT TO BE A FUN THING , NOW IT'S JUST MORE WORK!!!!!!!!! Oh, and by the way i've made up my mind to make it street legal, and might not even care about makin a ten sec car out of it.
