Got some new ideas about my build but it's gonna be time consuming. Trying to sell the VW front end, and i'm gonna re-build the whole car, the current frame is about 175 lbs, way to heavy. So i'm either gonna build a tube or go with a truck chassis. I don't have the $125 for the plans so i might pull dementions off the truck frame and fab up the tube chassis that way. I also don't have an endless supply of $ to pore into my car so I'm gonna make the parts myself. My steel supplier here has known me for 10 years so she's gonna help me out with the cost of the steel. If i buy the factory drops she's gonna give em to me at scrap prices, and that's dirt cheap!! i'm makin a jig to fab up the upper & lower control arms, and use s-10 dropped spindels, i'm still workin out the details b-4 i start buyin though, ( not sure about the rack system for an s-10) also, i'm i'm rethinkin the trans situation, I think a strong 350 turbo will support my drivetrain, I'm gonna down size the NOS jets and maybe do away with it all together.( not sure yet) I have a long way to go and much to ponder. EVERYTHING in the car has 2-b changed , steering, pedals, brakes, cage, dash, seats, fuel tank, suspention, and maybe the front windshield.

SCORE!!!! I just scored an 89 s-10 for $100!!!!! gonna sell the body & bed to another guy for$200!!! Hey v8 superbeetle , hellraiser, and any others using a s-10 frame,- are you using the stock steering or did you go with a rack? Did you upgrade to tube control arms or stock? I'm gonna do a ladder bar so I can eliminate much of the rear frame. Did you use the stock breaking system( master, booster, etc?) Did you have to change the oil pan to clear the crossmember? I got a rack out of a honda accord with the full steering colum is this gonna work with the s-10 spindels or will I have to change em? I'm totally stoked now!!! I'll post some pics in a week or two, have'nt had time to do it.

Awesome score! I wish I could've gotten the whole vehicle for $100.
I'm using the stock steering, control arms and steering. Although I have both a power and manual steering box that'll bolt up. I'm going to try out the manual box first to see how it does. You probably might want to use the S10 steering column too just to make it easier. For breaks I think Ray had offered me his old setup. I'm waning something simple to setup, non booster type.
Post some pics when you get the chance!

To top it off you'll be making an extra $100 right off the bat.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. Use a stock style 4 qt. oil pan and standard oil pump so you don't suck the pan empty at high rpm is what I've been told. If you want one that's 7 quarts you'll have to get an oil pan that's made to fit the S10 chassis. You'll also need a set of swap motor mounts which are about $50

ya stock steering and control arms, im pretty sure the accord rack will be too narrow, u could modify it but honestly it more trouble than its worth, as for breaks, i might go with a hydro boost set up, so that i dont have the massive power booster in the way

Cool thanx for the info, I already knew about the motor mounts but not the pan, I don't think mine will fit.

Also, forgot, if you're going to make headers then do it after the engine and steering box is in the chassis, or you'll have to get S10 conversion shorty headers like the ones on my page, or some S10 conversion long tube headers that tuck inside of the frame rails.

I think Flotech make a set for about $175. but I got a long way to go b-4 that comes up!! Imade the first set , don't know if i'm gonna make this one or buy. In my experience it's almost better to buy this stuff rather than make it!Thanx!

Ipicked up my s-10 yesterday, will start to dissasemble next week, gonna sand blast the chassis before I start to do any modification. I'm trying to find tubular control arms for it and have already found the spindles/break assy. gonna look up MOOG chassis components for all the steering stuff. Summit has a v8 s-10 convertion kit that comes with the pan, mounts & headers for like $400. Picked up a gallon of GM chassis paint (satin black) to do the frame and underbody. The truck has the power sterring pump and all the hoses, just need to change the pulley to a v-belt. All n all it looks real straight, no damage to the body , just some rust here and there . will try to post some pics next week,(i'm busier than a one legged man in an ass-kickin contest!!!)C-ya!

Sweet!! they've got everything for the front!! I wonder if the drop spindels will work with the lowering control arms for the bottom - that would be like a 5" drop! that may be too much. I'm also wondering if I could holesaw some out of the crossmember, and the front part of the frame. Not alot but in some locations that would'nt affect the structural integrity. Just pondering>>>>>> always asking "what if"

Yeah, they'll work together cause the spindle mount location is just 2" higher on the spindle itself. I believe you can use stock shocks too with the lowered control arms. I think you just can't use lowered springs with the lowering arms cause they'll rattle around in their. I'm going to go with lowered spindles and lowering springs for a total 3" drop up front. I've got some 3" lowering blocks for the back just waiting. Also, I did a body drop with mine. It requires cutting into the heater channels where the frame kicks out but the body is level with the bottom of the frame giving it a lowered look without actually lowering the vehicle. The flooring will raise up about 3"- 4" and my seat will more than likely have to be on the floor (not raised, possibly) for needed headroom, but I'll have to see when I get to that point. Hellraiser has his level with the top of his frame. Just some food for thought. I can post pics of what I'm talking about if you'd like. Might just save you some $$$ instead of lowering the whole thing.

How did you get on with fitting the engine under the bonnet after you dropped the body ?
Still enough clearance in there ?
