Hello, I've been lurking on this board for quite a while and decided to join. I'm not very " chatty " but will do my best. I own two V-8 bugs, a 1950 Splitwindow, Ford powered bug under construction and a 1961 Chevy engine bug that is nearly a daily driver. The '61 is my hotrod and the Splitwindow will be more of a " Show Car ". I have a long history of fabricating drag and street cars. You can see some here: photobucket.com/albums/v385/CMD/ CMD

Hey, welcome aboard CMD. I'm happy to see you made your way over and posted about your bugs. I really like both of them and the fact you used a S-10 front clip. What's the 61 daily driver run in the quarter? Do you have a roll cage or bar in your daily driver?

Hi, Thanks for the " Welcome Aboard " The ' 61 has run 10:30's in the 1/4 so far, with mufflers and street tires, but I'm still working on getting the injection right. Once I understand that; I'll try the NO 2 and if I don't hurt it; I'll put the supercharger back on. The injection has turned out to be a little more complicated than I anticipated! The photo shows the roll cage. It's mild steel now, but I plan to replace it with chrome moly over the winter. I've been following your project and like your ideas. Your plan for the side vents worked out great. I've never seen that before. Keep the updates coming.

Thanks for sharing. Your interior looks great. I'm debating to go with an 8 pt roll bar or a 10 pt cage. Mine wont see that much strip action, mainly a weekend cruiser, but I like the piece of mind of a 10 pt cage. How did your rear seat area turn out? I'm curious cause my frame rails take up what used to be that back seat and even more so since I mounted the body flush with the bottom of the frame.

Thanks for showing me those photos. On the split, is the angle iron the only mounts for the body?

Posted by v8superbeetle: On the split, is the angle iron the only mounts for the body? No....the tunnel substructure, the floor parallel to the heater channel, the footboxes, and the old luggage area floor and bottom of the firewall all sit on the frame.
There are also two front mounts not in the photos. The rear and suspension in the photos will be replaced.
Have you done any more work to your Superbeetle? The V-8 will give" Superbeetle " a whole new meaning won't it?!!

Happy New Year. The Split Window is great. I have a photo of it as a screen saver. I just started a build on a 56 which will have a 350 Chevy. Lots of good ideas on yours. I plan to do something in the foot area like yours.

Thanks for sharing. Sounds good. I have been working on my project. I work on it every other weekend if not every weekend. You can see my bug build thread here. carmensbugs.proboards102.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=8Last time we spoke I had asked you about how you would go about the whole process, doing body work and, frame work, and at what point you would suggest to start painting / finishing everything. So I took your word and have been finishing up all the body work and I'm just about finished with the body work. Once I'm finished with the body work I then plan to take the body back off the chassis, take the chassis apart, clean up / sand blast the frame, paint the chassis and install all new bushing / ball joints. I then plan to create and weld in a floor / firewall and then paint it inside and out all at once. I'm going to keep my freshly built motor and rebuild chassis all covered as good as possible while working with the firewall / flooring until I can get paint inside and out. I'm not exactly going for a show car quality but I would like to put down fresh paint and new parts anywhere possible cause I plan to keep this car for a long time. It might even become my daily driver once I get everything working smoothly. Yeah, sure does put a whole new meaning to "super beetle". I appreciate all the advice you've given me and for answering my questions.

I really appreiciate the sheetmetal work, not to mention the tube work with the roll cage. What kind of bead roller do you have?

My Split should be painted this month.

I appreciate all the advice you've given me and for answering my questions. I've been watching your build, almost from the beginning on Volksrods.com and here. Your invitation helped me decide to join this forum. My experience with body work is that no matter how well you cover or tape off; dust and overspray get everywhere. That's why I'll finish my chassis on the Split last. As if I don't have enough to do; I've started to build a small light weight trailer to tow behind my '61 with the Splitwindow on it, to be able to take both cars to an event at the same time. I think it will be a " Hoot " to take both cars to a Chevy, Ford, or VW Show! Keep those photos coming! CMD

I borrowed the beadroller from a friend and I don't know the brand name. Sorry. I can find out though. The guy helping me with the body work keeps telling me how much difference there is between a bodyman and a fabricator! I checked out your car. Looks like you and your Father have been into V-8 bugs for a while. Me too. I like the manual tranmission. I ran one as long as possible in my drag cars until they started to slow me down, and then went to the Lenco. CMD

Looks real good! Your frame work looks sorta like mine, with the square tubing framin out the trans. I'm lookin @ doin the firewall the same cause i got no room with my engine sittin so far back. What are your clearances around the headers and other engine components? How will you get to the sparkplugs on the 7 & 8 cylinders?
