I plan to build a super low budged V8-Bug out of the stuff that will remain from my 68 Impala Pro-Touring build. There will keep parst like: 350SBC TH 350 10Bolt-Rear Drive-Shaft Front Bench Stearing shifted column and stuff like that. I plan to build it in the style like a Hi-Boy hot rod and it should hardly like usual bug after the build is done. I try to make the body a bit wider as I am not used to drive in shoe boxes altough I am from Austria/Europe Therefor I maybe can use my Impala 10-Bolt and the bench. I going to build a subframe for it with the SCB in the front and a 4-link. Now the question: Will a stock Bug-front suspension handle the added weight of an SBC-drivetrain? Of course I have to use springs due to the fact that now an engine sits in the front. If I would have to go with another front suspension I will cancel that projekt since it would take to much money and it should be a low budget concept. Please tell me your opinion. Thanks

If I were you I would use a frame from a s10..it will be more budget minded and alot safer..IMO. Welcome to the site!

Thanks a lot for welcomeing me I am from Austria/Europe, we dont have S10´s an every corner. I want to build a custom subframe but I would like to use the stock bug front suspension upgraded with airbags or springs. I only want to know if it will work, otherwise I am going to put the Impala left over parts on eBay and thats it. I got the feeling it could withstand the weight, it would be a summer - cruiser anyways. Thanks

Quite a few folks are using the stock VW front end. I believe Carmen's yellow bug on the home page has one with a big block. Post some pictures when you can and let's see the Pro-Touring Impala!
Welcome!

Hahaha, my friend, from the Impala I can post pics from the new 540BBC (which will substituted by a 572-632cid aluminum block) and the removed car, but as soon as I start with it I will not forget to post Ok some fellas went with the stock suspension even with a big block, than it should not be a problem with the smallblock. After some time I will go with a pair of aluminum heads and the intake is made from aluminum as well. All together will save a lot of weight from the front end. Battery is going to be in the trunk in any case. If anybody got pics from a V8 Bug with stock suspension or know some facts about it please share. Thanks

Hann I know there are two different front ends on the bugs. I didnt catch the year of your bug. I dont know which one would function better for your project. Maybe another member will chime in on which one would be better. Good luck with it.

LOL....good one Murphy!
Yes, a beam/torsion bar front end is what most are using if they use the VW stuff.

Yeah it will work. The front end of a bug can carry about 600 lbs. I'm using one and it seems to work just fine.

This is where my engine sits, This is the only drawback to using this setup, the engine sits farther back because of the tie rods movement. If you still want the engine farther forward, then you have to move the engine over the tie rods and it will raise the instant center of the car (not good).
