a plasma would be nice or oxy ace cutting, but the sozall sould work fine, will take longer but will be a cleaner cut. screw jacks to help level out the frame when welding, they can be very accurate.

LOL, yeah, snow is rare here, say once every five to ten years.
Sounds like you have everything you need. The sawzall will do the job. I cuts through sheet metal and 1/8" stuff like butter but is a little slow when you come to multiple layers of 1/8" metal. Just get you some of those metal cutting blades that are about a foot long, they work great.

skar,I'm not sure what you've got for a shop or how big it is..but it might be an idea to build a jig before you cut the 'stang..nothing too fancy, just like a table that you can put it on to keep it level and straight before you make the cut to shorten it..that would make it a heck of a lot easier..I'm betting that v8 superbeetle wishes he had one when he tried to cut his frame..that jig would act like a big pair of hands keeping everything straight and true as you're trying to cut and weld...

well my garage is like 17 by maybe 24, the Mustang is beside it out in the snow (I have to wait for it to melt before I start this) I plan on bracing the bugs body before I pull it off the pan/ frame, the Mustang however i was just planning on cutting off all the body then cutting it in half side ways then when I re attach it just lining it all up, a jog would be a great idea but I really dont have the room

like I told ya in the PM I sent ya skar, the mini stock class around here use those'stangs and I've seen them without bodies on them but the one that i did see already had the roll-cage in it...so that tells me that there is some rigidty it those frames..but one thing that you'll have to do for sure is to put some sort of bracing inside of those "frame rails" that you talked about before...that will help in not having to go too hog wild on the cage that you're planning on building...without that bracing in there, the cage is going to be the main structural support(the "back-bone"if you will)..it's going to be ,anyways, but with those little pieces in there,it won't have to be as strong..

well yeah, like it isnt a full frame car, so im going to add subframe connectors and beef up there they join the subframes, and I plan on a pretty crazy cage (i love designing them and have access to a bender, so im thinking all out cage

I had to make do with what I have, but yeah, having a jig or even the space for a jig would've been great. Shortening a S10 frame is pretty straight forward and many have done so without a jig. Just a level, some jacks, jack stands, and clamps. "Wish in one hand and sh*t in the other and see which one fills up first!"
