Hey guys, I have surfaced again!! I have been very busy at work and I have a really cool new project starting up. I am constructing a full-scale 1950's-1960's Sinclair gas station in my 50'x60' shop to work on my cars in. It will have 2 service bays with a 4-post car lift, a retail sales area, and an owner's office. I have been collecting tons of stuff (over 1,000 purchases over the last 12 months) on ebay to put in the station. It should be really cool.
I promised pictures of my upgrades and that is what I just started working on again.

The car was originally built in the mid 1980's. I purchased the car in 1995. EVERYTHING was done in older technology... Leaf Springs on the front end, dropped solid front axle, 57-Chevy steering gear box, 4-wheel drum brakes, old 1960's technology "super-stock" rear-end setup...
All this was probably okay with a 400hp motor... But not with 675hp!! You should have seen me trying to slow the car down from 138 mph in the quarter mile with NON-power 4-wheel drum brakes... Not very safe! The front end with the leaf springs walked around a lot at speed as well...

I read on one of the other threads that "v8superbeetle" was considering using a straight axle with leaf springs like the guys with the T-buckets use. Well, you really DON'T want to use this kind of front end on the street! That type front end setup was designed for the drag strip where you only had to drive straight ahead and with NO pot holes! I can tell you from experience that if you hit a large pot hole with this type suspension it will literally jerk your car to wherever it feels like going... Not a very safe situation. A couple of years ago I was driving on a gradually curving road, hit a big pot hole, blipped the throttle of a very powerful motor accidently, and literally jumped into the other lane...
NO ONE wants to have to deal with that...
