sounds good, but I have to scrap the current s-10 , the frame is sooooo rusted I'm afraid to use it. i've never seen that before, the underside of the body is not rusted at all, but the frame is so bad it's almost rusted through. Like the frame was'nt painted or something. That's probably why I got it for $100!!!The front section that's boxed is okay but where i'm gonna tie my back-half to it is gone, even if i blast it, I still would'nt trust it to be strong.I'll keep searchin for a good frame. In the meantime I can find out what parts I'm gonna need to make up a good corner carver.

If the front clip is still good you could just salvage it and build the rest of the frame out of rect tubing. Here's an example of one built that way. Might cost just as much as buying another S10 and you plan on doing the four link setup for the rear right?

I thought about using the s-10 but my problem is this----- because my floor was sooo rusted I don't have heater channels, floor pans, trunk or engine bay. pretty much all I've got is the body so I had to make my own everything. I've spent the last several days just cutting the old stuff out of the way to see which direction I was gonna go.I'm tryin to still use the vw front that i've rebuilt because i got a lot of$ in it ( about $700 ) I know i won't be able to sell it for that much and I think it will work but I think I just need to move the engine back a few inches. The bug from hell uses a vw front end and if he's using it for a 427 I should be able to use what i got for a 350. I am however picking up some 2x4 sq.tb. today from the steel house to modify the back-half and some 18ga. sheet metal to redo the floor and firewall.I'm also gettin some 1 1/2" .095 pipe for the new cage i'm puttin in. I'm not gonna start the major work until i get back from U.K. just tryin to get stuff together now. So i'm still tryin to work out what to do. I like to have multiple ideas before I do this again so i don't have to go through what i'm goin through now. I also promised pics but i've been gettin side tracked with life so I'll see what I can get on here so you can see what I'm talkin about.( need to get a better camera) c-ya

Sounds like a good plan. The beam front ends will hold up, but as you know the car will be more of a mid engine type which is probably better for weight distribution.

okay this is kinda what i'm thinkin to do with the frame modification basically i can cut the vw front off and fab it to my new chassis with the 2x4 tubing. then take some 1x2 tubing and do a cross brace for the trans, the brace under the engine will be 2x4 as well, and the motor mounts can be whatever works. I've seen some custom car builders use some pretty weak lookin stuff so i'm lookin to do somethin stout. this frame pic isjust for an idea i'm workin on the exact dimintions on graph paper so the frame will be to scale. The photoshop stuff was hard to do so overlook the kindergarden lookin drawing!!I'm not very good with this comp thing. how do i get these smiley faces on here??

Well, I normally work on it during the weekends and the last couple weekends was spent getting motors / swapping. That and I decide I'd be social for a change and visit with friends instead of working in the garage. I've also been doing a bunch of freelance graphic design work so I can pay for my upcoming wedding and so I'll have some extra change to spend on getting parts for the bug. Shhhhhh, don't tell the fiancé I'm skimming some money off the top for car parts , LOL! So not much has changed. This coming Sunday I've got the whole day to myself, which translates to I got the whole day to work on my bug. So I'll have some updates to post. It'll pretty much be all body work.

1st, congrats on the marrage,2nd, your secrets safe with me. me, i'm collecting materials for the new build, same design, different materials, 2x4 tubing, 1 1/2 .095 tubing for the cage, and some beefier rear end components.

Thanks, LOL! Sounds good! So your basically improving what you already have instead of going the route of using a OEM shortened chassis? I can appreciate that.

Yeah, my design worked fine , it was just too heavy. and I think moving the engine back & down will help the front work better. I talked to Carmen today and he said his front works just fine, he does'nt drive it much but when he does there's no probs. Makes me feel a little better knowin that it will work, just have to redo the mainframe.and the trans and rear end.
