We get sun and rain plus high humitity, but not like the rain you get! I bet it's hard to get anything done huh? I had to prime my whole frame and any exposed metal cause it was starting to rust ( surface rust anyway,) .

I had to prime my whole frame and any exposed metal cause it was starting to rust ( surface rust anyway,) . Same here. Any bare metal gets surface rust quickly. That the main reason I just grab some cheapy auto primer spray cans to cover it up until it's ready for the good stuff. I don't know what's more work though. Removing all the cheap primer or removing surface rust.

Yep, it's a pain getting stuff done outside over here lol.
We usually get about 2 weeks of sun for the summer ;D
It's not been too bad this year, stayed dry quite late. The rain is starting to come in now though so should be fully drenched by the time you get over here ;D

Okay, because of the rust issues, I'm cutting the front off and splicing a whole front end on to the body. Have to cut midway up the front window, the front door pilar, 9.5 inches down from the door striker back to the rear fender. With the new bug body fabbed in I'll have the stock door jam, rockers, and rear fender mounts, plus running board mounts. It would have been better to use the whole car but i already had the old body welded to the frame and i don't wanna cut all that off. I now have the fenders i need to do the whole car, ( not using fiberglass) and by putting front fenders in the rear, i'll have a wider stance in the back. All the main frame is fabbed and welded, gonna finish the body work and suspention, then I'll start on the floor and firewall, interior will look different from a traditional bug as far as the sheetmetal goes but who wants to be the same, right? Will try to get camera and post some pics one day. I will b-4 progress gets to far along.<c-ya> DAWG

Spent all weekend choppin my 9" down to to 40.5" , that was a pain in the @$$, not to mention my arms are killing me from beating the tubes back together as I don't have a torch at home. went to the machine shop to get bushings made for the control arms and to see about having the axles cut and resplined. Currie has a set for about $350, but I'm wondering if the stock axles would be stronger, they're heat treated, seasoned, and 1 1/4 " diam.might be cheaper to have them recut. Still looking at all options before making up my mind, 3rd member is $1200, Disc brakes are $500, axels and bearing are $500, tires are gonna be about $500 mounted and balanced. might as well go ahead and order a new alluminum front beam w/ chromolly control arms ,heavy duty sway springs for the inside, 3/4" sway bar w/ poly bushings, 2" dropped spindles, drilled discs and a rack & pinion and make a road course car out of it!!!

That would be cool and would probably make for a more fun car.

Yeah, i still got a lot of "engineering" to do to get the frame and body together, not to mention the seating and controls to work in, not much room now that i've moved the engine back. I'm definatly makin it street legal, but comfortable is another story all together. The more I look @ 454bug's ride ,the more I want to be able to drive it more on the street. We only have one road course here in Ga. it's about an hour and a half from me but it would be fun.

I know what you mean, a lot of work. So you should be basically riding in the back now, right? I think the direction you're going with your car it would be course worthy.

My car is basically the bug from hell mixed with badblown69, and a dunebuggy, with some "old school" Baja strong, Dropped cal look with a "race car" look interier. I think it will be more streetable, and i'll be able to drive it around with better handeling, but if I want to jam the gears i know it ai'nt gonna break.I'm not much for the cherried out interier flashy bling bling. I like the inside painted with brushed aluminum, seats and that's it. Comfort is not high on my priorities, so regulal old plastic seats work for me. Not carved in stone yet, but i'll be riding about mid way between the front and back seats, sorta. we'll se.
