Had a bit of time so got to work on the table for building the prostreetbug chassis today. I'm making the tabletop out of 2 sheets of 12mm ply with some studding sandwiched between them. First off, I told you there wasn't much room ;D Here's some of the studding. I planned on laying a few ribs on the ply and then putting some crossmembers between them Here's the end result. The studding is fixed to one sheet of ply at the mo, just got to check it's all good and then bond/screw the other sheet of ply on top.

Looks great! It'll be nice to have that table to work you frame out on.
LOL, in the second picture it looks like the bug is peeping in on what's going on.

Yep, gonna head off and start drawing the layout onto the table then lay the steel. The wife is going away for a week as well so might get the chassis built after all lol.

haha get the wives in the garage to help haha She usually does lol. Well as much as she can past her fear of sparks ;D Must be a woman thing that lol. She's more into cars than me. I always loved 2 wheels but then met her & got introduced to the good ole american V8's and was hooked The Mustangs in the earlier pics were hers (yellow Mach 1 still is). Anyway, despite having the house to myself I only just managed to get around to actually working on the chassis today Here's the progress pics. Table all painted and started marking up. Stupidly didn't take many progress pics so this was how it all ended up. I marked out the chassis rail on the table and made a load of holding blocks to keep the steel in place. Set it all out & measured to make sure it was true & flat etc. Tacked the one partial rail and then built the other one using the same jig blocks (essentially built the second rail upside down as the two sides are symmetrical and then flipped it over) Then I put some blocks between the rails just to make sure they were parallel. That's as far as I got cos I got called up about some work Anyhow, it's progress at least. By the way, my garage isn't long enough for a full size table so I could only build it onto an 8' sheet. The plan is to build from just in front of the rear frame to the front end and then shuffle the chassis forward to put the rear end on afterwards.

WOW! Looking good so far! Take your time, it'll be worth it! When will the tacking begin or will you just dive right into welding the chassis up?

Tacking the pieces as I go. Giving plenty of time to cool down in between to make sure they stay aligned. Once all the frame is tacked i'll go around it all and fully weld the joints. Have got some heat-soaking putty that you put on the metal to draw the heat off the weld and stop distortion. Hopefully that and a lot of patience will work out for the best Either that or i'll have to check out the cash situation as there's a good chassis builder round the corner from me & I could get him to TIG it all up.

That would be a good way to go. You could also just clamp down the frame to the table you built, if the table is rigid, and do as you mentioned, a little at a time. Clamp her down like this. This guy used u-bolts and clamps and work out great. Here's a link to see more of this t-bucket build. members.tripod.com/~Jackak10/tbucket.html

Nice build.
If you look at the leg in the right hand side of the pics I put up you can see the hold down clamps i'm using. They're held down with 6" screws that go through the blocks (Also screwed to the table) and into the table as well. Plenty solid enough ;D
I've only clamped the one leg down at the mo as the other one isn't blocked in place yet cos i'd only just tacked it all together.

I think as long as you're not running from police you'll be OK! Maybe if that guy had a V8 bug he would've smoked that cop in that straight away. I saw that one clamp and I think that's the way to go!
