Hurricane Ike has came and went. We (Houston / Galveston) got a direct hit. It was a category 3 by the time it made landfall. I came out fine. My apt has a bunch of small trees knocked over and some pulled up, we're pretty lucky. The power went out at about 1:30 am Friday and was probably back on Sat evening or Sunday morning. I'm not sure cause my fiancé, dog, her family and I went up to her Grandfathers farm house out in Bellville TX cause there was power.
The Galveston, the city along our coast, was pretty much washed and blown away.A lot of Houston still doesn't have power or running water. They're slowly restoring everything. There's hardly any gas at all. I waited 2 hours in line yesterday to get gas and was lucky to got gas cause the pump ran out shortly afterwards. There's lots of debri, light signals on the ground, fences blown down...anything and everthing flew.
My work was damaged badly. Parts of the roof failed, the whole place flooded...big mess. I took a bunch of pictures for insurance purposes and others around town along with a little video. I'll post them first chance when I have access to regular Internet (I'm posting now on my iPhone).

I personally don't have it too bad cause I've got power and running water. The gas situation is pretty messed up almost everywhere around here. Work is pretty bad. Today was my first day to go in. I was mopping, pulling wet carpet, taking pictures of damage...the whole place smells like mildew.
On my way home from work I got a couple pictures of damage. A whole row of power lines and poles down and a temporary construction building in the middle of the road.

Row upon row of fences down. Temporary construction building, basically a mobile home, in the middle of the street. Well, what's left of it. the frame is across the street at the construction site. The skyline 6 hours before the storm. A pic of my husky licking the cows. After the storm hit and we had no power we went out to my fiancé family farm house cause they had power, running water, and four wheelers to goof off on. I'm sure my dog appreciated being able to roam 50 acres too. About 7 power line / telephone poles down and leaning into peoples backyards. This is why I say I don't have it too bad.

Some updates on the bug. Still doing body work a little at a time. The front end is pretty close to being finished. I still want to shave the bumper up front and the handle, but I've got to wait until I can get a hold of my brothers mig welder just to make the job easier than using a stick welder. Hopefully I can get my hands on it this weekend. At this point I'm just tapping in high spots and filling in little low spots and trying to get the body as smooth as I possibly can.

Thanks! How's your coming along, anything new to report? I know you're still waiting on bits and pieces and making room for everything. Looking very good though!

That's about it. I picked up the rear frame rails and 4 link kit a week or so ago. Still waiting for the front end to be delivered All the rear end stuff from Ray shoulb be picked up on Tuesday hopefully. I'm kind of stuck for things to do at the moment lol. Going to get a local chassis builder to TIG weld all the rear frame section together for me. Mainly to make sure it's all square and true. Can't do that just yet theough as I need the rear axle and need to decide how far apart i'm having the rear rails. It's getting there though. Should be like christmas by the end of next week though ;D

Sounds like a good plan and should make for an awesome setup! Are you still driving the bug daily? Maybe you could start tearing the car down from the inside and remove some of the body bolts to keep you busy? Just a thought. I know you're tight on space.

nah, the bug's not been used for a while now. I'm limited to what I can take off it at the mo as it's going to be towed to my mates garage when I sort out getting the body on. Could do with keeping the bug chassis on it at the moment. Plus, with the wonderful weather we have over here, past restorations have included welding the body to the chassis so it will need to be cut off.
