You'd think they would handle things a little better and you would think the factory would package these things better. It was just in plastic bag, not even oiled any, and it was just laid in a card board box. I don't know if there was any other protection that might have come out, but I doubt it.
Summit is treating me good though. I called them that day and they sent one out today. I should get the replacement Wed and they're picking up the damaged one.
That sucks! I hope your part is OK. It always seems like the more costly parts get damaged. I had to ship back on of the vortec heads I bought because it was damaged in shipping. One of the rocker studs was bent.

The replacement 3.75" crank came in and it was in much better shape.

Glad to see that was resolved without issues! I like the new paint scheme you're going with. Who's doing your paint work? Will you be doing it yourself?

Hey Paul,
Me too. Summit has been pretty good about returns and getting a replacement out right away. I received a vortec head from them with a bent rocker stud a year ago and they replaced it right away.
Thanks! I'm going to give painting it a shot. The hardest part is all the prep work and getting the body lines nice. Although I know that spraying candy paint is more challenging and harder to get right, but I'd like to get that a try as well. My work has a big open shop where I can setup a temporary booth and they have house airlines, with moisture traps at each outlet, that they run their machines off of. So I'll just tap into that.

Update... I started disassembling the engine. I plan to even remove the freeze plugs, oil gallery plugs and cam bearings myself as well as install them to cut down on costs and to get some experience doing so. Used some bolts and an arc welding rod (with the flux coating knocked off) to catch the piston. And some fuel hose press on the rod bolts to protect the cylinder walls. Works pretty nice. I don't have to worry about them falling on the floor without help. These will be up for sale. They're forged 4.030. Cylinder bores are pretty much flawless by looking. No scratches or groves worn in from the pistons. Hone marks are still visible. I rebuilt the carb. Here it is before. Disassembled. I sandblast the body and other parts that didn't have any jets. Cleaned it with a can of carb cleaner. Then I scrubbed it with warm water and light soap. Then blew the water out with compressed air and used a blow drier to completely dry it out before reassembly. Cleaned up parts... Cleaned up parts...the floats look really nice and new. ;D And the rebuilt car. All new gaskets, seals, pump, linkage kit added, etc. Ready to rock!

What up guys! Progress this month has been a little slow. I've been waiting for some funding to come in so I can take my block and rotating assembly to the machine shop. Also, I've been working a lot of overtime and do quite a bit of freelance work to save for my house, up coming wedding, and the bug (in that order ). So I haven't really had too much time to do much. Not to mention I've had gigs for the past 3 weekends one of which I played both Friday and Sat. Finally, a breather ,but not for long. Good news, the funding came in and I'll be taking everything to the machine shop. Now I just got to get a couple friends help me load the block into my truck. Also, hopefully, I'll be getting my transmission from my Dad. He hasn't dug it out of the garage cause it's been pretty hot here in the Houston area. So I should have some engine and tranny progress coming soon. Last but not least, I've figured out how I will mount my radiator in the back and will be making the mount / support soon. Maybe even start on it tonight since I've finally got some free time.

Very true. I hoping I can get a hand this weekend so I can get my engine to the machine shop. I'm ready to put her together.

Thanks for the offer to help. I did manage to get a buddy out to help and I drop the block off for hot tanking, magna flux, honing, rods resized and ARP 383 bolts install, decking to 9.020 and balancing of the rotating assembly. I might need a hand come this Saturday. Either way, I have you're number and it would be great to meet you and have you come over and look at the bug. And vise versa.
