hi everybody. im building '70 non superbeetle. im using a '84 s10 chassis, and i am looking to not use power anything. manual steering, non boosted brakes, muncie m20 four speed. im gonna go with a chevy small block 302, sinlge 4 barrel. im going to use a ford truck nine inch rear end with a four link. i just have to narrow it to fit.
i figured that i was gonna be original with mine, but i guess all you guys beat me to the punch on this one. nice to see that im not the only one putting together an overpowered deathtrap. -chris

o'men to the overpowered deathtrap. ya the s-10 chassis is realy the way to go, as u can see, if u actualy work on it, its not that hard, but unfortunatly i was the first to post a project on here let alone basicaly doing it blind cuz ide never seen another bug on an s10 chassis, sadly mine probly has the least progress lol, so if you can stay on it and post alot of pics. we here seem to like the pics ;D

im not too sure what the uk equivalent of an s10 is ............ BUT they ought to have plenty of ford rangers laying about in the K, and they are downright close to the same size

Rangers as in Range Rover/Land Rover ?
Might be onto something there and i've got one on my drive. Only problem is it'd be useful to get to work and back in it so I can't cut it up ;D
Decided to go down the prostreetbug chassis route. Got all the steel cut now, just need to get my arse into gear and weld it together. Tempted to narrow the rear end a bit as well.
Lookin forward to some pictures of your project.

Watching hellraiser's thread I basically knew at that point it's possible. There's a dude on volksrods.com that has a couple of S10 V8 bug builds too. It's all about creativity really cause there's no really how book or way to do these things. Like pinning a tail on a donkey while getting beat with a wiffle ball bat. LOL!
Pics are always cool and we'll be glad to blindly guide you.

alright i know i dont have any pictures.
i know, i know, pictures are NICE.
so lets see if i can paint a mental picture for you guys. i went and bought my bug about two weeks ago, and am supposed to pick it up day after tomorro.
so ive driven past this guys place before, average size brick home bug in the driveway, and what look to be about two more in the back. prime pickings. driving by (cloudy day) there happens to be a few guys out in the yard moving things in and out of the generously sized two car garage. i wave REAL big and one of the guys walks on up to the gate, and i explain that i am interested to see if hes willing to sell one of the bugs in the yard, so as he lets me in the yard and we proceed up toward the garage, i notice that the stuff the guys are organizing for the guy happen to be engine blocks for volkswagens, and there are way more than twenty arranged in neat rows in front of the doors, looking in you can see about a dozen transaxles, and other parts ALL over the inside of the garage. as we round the edge of the garage coming into view are the two volkswagens that i had seen from the road, as well as kharmans and busses that were hidden behind the house and garage, and ANOTHER eight or nine bugs. in knee high grass surrounded by a neatly mowed path. as the me and the guy, tall mid sixties retired guy wearing greasy overalls walk out into the yard he starts pointing them out and telling me what they are. that one belongs to a guy, that ones getting an engine, that one is going to be a baja, im restoring that one for myself...........someday, that one is for sale its a super 75ish,that ones been rolled its for sale, and down the line he went. out of the dozen or so bugs seven were for sale. one was complete, and three of the others were missing minor parts. he starts to tell me that the ones that are missing engines are no problem and he can have one in in a few hours.
so i hit him with it.
"i dont need an engine or transaxle", and right as he looks over at me "or the pan either". naturally he asks me if i have a dune buggy that im converting back, so when i tell him no, i get that CLASSIC look , that one wide eye one squinted half disbelief ..."oh brother" look, (like when you realize the guy at the parts house counter has NO idea what hes doing and is wasting your time look)
so i hit him again
"how much you figure youd take on a complete body?" "no pan?" "no pan" "no engine?" "or transaxle" i finished with. again the look, and after afew seconds he finished with "id take 175 for a body" "enough panels to finish one out with?" "yeah" "glass, and lenses?"(did i mention they were took apart?) "id take 200 for a COMPLETE body" he said "all straight panels?" man i felt like i was getting greedy. "your pick" he said
so we proceeded around, and i looked and started picking out doors and fenders, and the body and glass.
and i ask him "you gonna be around a while?" he looks over "cause i gotta go hit my bank up for my money" i tell him i get the look from him, the one you give the guy panhandling money in a parking lot as he walks away and you know youll never see him OR your five dollars again. "oh ILL be here" he says"
so i take off get the money and come back.
upon showing back up "hmm i didnt id ever see you again" he said, so i took a rear glass a red front fender a green engine cover, and i made arrangements to come back in two weeks. and he gives me his buisness card.
last week
i call him up. and go over to see if hes made any progress on pulling the last of the fender and hood and cut the nose off one of them to put on the one id picked out.(did i mention they were not totally complete?) "havent gotten that far yet muffraid" he said. so i ask if hed like some help today to get it done. later that day wed managed to kill about a dozen wasps, spiders, mosquitos and get the glass out that i needed, a light green door, a blue front fender, the red trunk, pulled the slightly rusted classic overrider bumpers and separated the pan from the faded grey body. i loaded up my panels, made more arrangements for this week to pick up the body.
SO
no pics yet. but the body is coming to town SOON. still no pics yet. -chris

well started in on the door that i got home the other day, started pulling the rotted paneling off, and oiling down the hinges and the latch mechanism, inspected the completely rusted off window rolling up mechanism. THEN as i was still peeling the paneling off a brown recluse spider tried to make a run for it from the panel into the door. luckily i had the wd handy, and sprayed it down, and smashed it. and some small brown black widow looking spider wandered out after a while. mushed it with the screwdriver. definitely getting some spray killer. yah no pics of the spider
