ya the s-10 frame is great if ur just wanting a lil cheap rat rod, and even better if you have access to a frame, thats why i went with it. no progress yet except for the engine is mounted and the trans mount is made but needs to be welded. thats about it for now but tomorrow im hopping to start on the firewall. get lots of pics while building yours up cuz it makes it more interesting.

well it looks like i will be using a S10 blazer frame, it is all i could get, maybe ill make it 4wd only thing nice is the wheel base is very close, blazer has a 100", i may just set the body on it without shortening the frame and see how it looks, ill go this route till i get a 2wd frame btw mine will have a 455 cid oldsmobile motor in it

I never even thought about that, but metalmaster is right. The S-10 Blazer is pretty much the same frame but instead of the 109" wheelbase it has a 100" (2 dr) wheelbase. I'm glad he brought that up before I got a S-10 truck frame. Being that I'll have a super beetle (97.5" wheelbase) body to work with, I'll just move the rear leaf spring forward 2.5" and trim off the length I from each end that I don't need.

After researching I've found that a Blazer (2dr) chassis and a Super Beetle will be the easiest route, although I haven't got to the stage of place the body on the chassis yet. The Blazer has a 100" wheelbase and the Super Beetle has a wheelbase of 97.5". I'll have pics of this setup sometime by the end of November.

if you want to be at exactly 97.5" then i would just move the rear end up 2.5" and shorten the axle

Just curious and looking for ideas. How do you plan on handling the firewall, flooring and wheel wells?

all ive done lately is mount the trans. as for the fire wall and floor board im planning on mounting it to the chassis so that the body will still come off for a roll cage or i may just weld it to the body.

Hey Hellraiser You in Bakersfield? I am just south of there in Lebec. Would love to see your project if you have a few miniutes some weekend. I was thinking of doing one too but have never seen a project in person. Is the S-10 frame the right width so the bug body will go over the frame rails. I would like to do one as low as possible. I was also wondering if those tires you put on yours (12") will fit in the fenders or they will have to be widdend. If I go ahead with doing this I would like to put a 383 stroker in it with a 350 auto. Like you I think the 4 bar would be the way to get it to hook up when you stomp on it. Thanks Mike

ya that would be cool if u came to check it out. we could both get some new ideas. as 4 the tires i just stuck those on there to move it arround and thaugh about using them but didnt want to widen the fenders and also with 8" wheels they will tuck under the fenders and it will look a lil more stock.
